Restriction of freedom is seen and heard in the film as the lower districts are treated as peasants meaning they get objects and food of very poor quality, this also leads to real world, during our days , "NEWS" comes on and you always see negativity. War, social media, humans in general have very bad qualitys within them when it comes to violence. Ausralia is meant to be a free country, but in the real world no one is "FREE" everyone has to contribute towards the country.

Dehumanisation

Dehumanization is when a class or group of people feel they are more deserving than others and treat those beneath them as less than human by taking away their basic human rights. Some groups of people will do this in order to make things that are extremely wrong an unfair seem alright. If one group of people is very wealthy, well clothed and fed and living in luxury housing while another group of people starves and lives on the street, the higher class might feel guilty. But if the starving, homeless people were less than human, the fact that they are suffering would not matter as much. In order to justify the complete injustice, a society will dehumanize a certain group of people until it becomes expected that this group is less than human.

Examples of dehumanisation in The Hunger Games:

- When Effie Trinket says, "The pair last year at everything with their hands like a couple of savages." she is dehumanizing the citizens of District 12

- Effie talks to Katniss and Peeta about other tributes from their district and customs of District 12 as if they have no feelings. Although Effie treats those from District 12 as less than herself, it is not because she is evil. Effie has grown up in the Capitol where it is taught that the Capitol is more important than all other districts and that the districts are less civilized and cultured.
- "The three step back and admire their work. 'Excellent! You almost look like a human being now!'...they all laugh...'Thank you,' I say sweetly. We don't have much cause to look nice in District 12."

- "The monstrous boy from District 2." This is Katniss's first impression of Cato, the boy tribute from District 2. The fact that this is the only thing Katniss notices about Cato show that she is dehumanizing him because she does not think of him as another person with emotions, and a family and friends.

Example in the Real World
North Korea is a communist country and a dystopian society that is controlled wholly and solely by one ruler. Being a communist country, North Korea is isolated and cut off from the rest of the world. Being different makes the country paranoid of the outside world. For example, North Korea, as we all know, conduct nuclear weapon tests. They do this as a way of intimidating the outside world when they themselves are scared of being attacked. One country they are particularly scared of is the United States of America. However, in order to keep peace in there country, they cannot show fear among the nation. This is just one aspect of many that makes North Korea currently a dystopian society.

Relevance in The Hunger Games
The Hunger Games shows many of the characteristics of what seems to be a dystopian society, where the citizens of Panem are oppressed by the Capitol. Panem is divided into twelve districts, with each one having a particular job to do for the Capitol. However, most of the districts are poor and its citizens struggle to live in a life of poverty. One such example is Katniss's district, district 12, which has a wide socio-economic gap, with the poorer people living in the seam while the wealthier live in the town areas. Citizens of district 12 fear the Capitol, which is due to the strict regulations and propaganda, which constantly puts down the districts from past events like the rebellions and the annihilation of District 13.
