Most people view men's hip hop style as someone who dresses with sagged pants, snap backs, and a gold chain, but that is not always the case. Hip hop fashion is not always recognizable. The people within this subculture dress how they want and how they feel. What they wear shows how they feel without words, whether they look fancy or laid back. This fashion is constantly changing as the years go on, and at the moment the style is all about the name brand clothes and shoes. The celebrities of this group influence people from all over the world to dress as they do. Shoes by famous basketball players, such as Kobe Bryant, are very popular within this culture.

On the contrary to men's fashion, the women of this subgroup are dressing to look good and impress those around them. The women of this subculture are constantly making fashions statements that leave people talking. Along with their clothes, they value their hair complementing with their outfits as well as their jewelry. Make up has recently made its' way up in the women's fashion, not only because it makes them look flawless, but it makes them feel good. Leaving these fashion statements are a big part of this subculture.

Beats by Dr. Dre were an instant hit all over the world. Dre has been a huge influence on the hip hop subculture since day one. He was a big part of N.W.A, which impacted their audience when they stood up for themselves and their community throughout their musical talent. Although the group may not be around today, they are still legends within the hip hop subculture. Today Dre's legacy lives through his music and the beats collection he has created. Many rap artists and athletes support and advertise for his company as well.

In the beginning, hip hop music was a way to protest about inequality and all the mistreatment being received, which led to violence, but eventually people of this subculture focused on taking that anger out in an art form. Graffiti was a huge way for people to express themselves in a nonviolent way. This may be seen as a negative attribute, but it was a way of communicating and spreading awareness. Graffiti is some artists life, and very important to them when they can show their passion to anyone who happens to walk by their artwork. This wall is from a local beach in my home town, where people are constantly creating artwork to express their opinions, or just to spray paint for fun.

The passion within performers are what draw the audience in. The music of performers may be good, but when the artist performs while having the crowd enjoying it is something significantly unique. Rap artists such as G-Eazy always have the crowd having fun and moving the whole concert. I've been to a couple of his concerts, and have never been disappointed. With all of his performances, I can tell he is very passionate about his music, and that his journey to get to where he is today makes him humble.

Sports are a great way to promote the hip hop subculture. Many sports such as basketball, football, baseball, and others support hip hop music at all their games. Sports games influence the fans to listen to hip hop music. Basketball is known for this because they play rap before, during and after their games. Hip hop music influences the sporting cultures by getting them ready and pumped for their practices and games.

The people have tattoos from anything from a loved one to something they are passionate about. These tattoos can even tell a story about a person. A lot of artists will get tattoos of certain moments in their life that follow the music they have created. Tattoos are a big part of the culture, and are even seen as a form of their style.

Studios hold a big importance for many artists. These studios can vary from an actual recording studio to a bedroom in a house. They are huge moments for when artists create new music that has the potential to be legendary. Back in the day there were not many recording studios that were accepting to everyone, so people would make their own music. Today recording studios are active everyday making history all over the country. Even at Washington State University we have radio stations who record and put music on the radio for students to listen to.

The background within hip hop music, also known as beats, is a major key. A song can have good lyrics and meaning, but when the beats aren't good enough, people will not be as likely to like the song. The beat in the background music is important because it inspire the fans and other artists to remix the song, and even make the song better in their own unique way. Today making your own background music is just as easy as a click on your laptop. Apple computers provide the opportunity for their users to use an app called Garage Band, allowing people to make their own music.

Concerts are huge for this subculture, and are a way for the people to come together and enjoy the music they all love. Every concert is different depending on the performer, crowd, and even the location. The WSU SEB is very good at presenting performers in which the students at the school will enjoy. They once brought Lil' Yachty, a new young rap artist, and his concert brought the whole community together. Hip hop music is not only for the hip hop subgroup, and enjoyed by many other subcultures.

They may be past away, but their legend still lives today. Notorious B.I.G and Tupac set the tone for hip hop music all over the world. This picture of them is sold online for fans to buy. The title for this artwork is "Dead leaders for a dead system", referring to music not being the same after the death of the most influential rappers of all time. These two will never be forgotten because they have the most impactful on hip hop subculture and the music within it. They both spoke true words within their music, and movies were even created in honor of their memory and story.

Rap nowadays is completely different than what it used to be. Compared to Biggie Smalls and Tupac, Drake has a completely different style. Today Drake is considered one of the most successful and well known rappers. Drake has made multiple best selling songs, and even has his own recording studio, OVO Sound. In September of 2016, I was lucky enough to go to one of his concerts in Seattle, and he was truly talented. The venue at the Tacoma Dome was completely packed, and had no empty seats, which is rare and shows that Drake is a unique artist that people are willing to pay a lot of money for. For my generation Drake is very popular, and will not be forgotten.
