Summary: The Rainbow Fish is about a unique fish with exotic, shiny scales. He's so proud of his features that he is very reluctant to share his scales with the other fish. However, when he realizes how alone he is, he doesn't value his glittering scales anymore he just wants friendship. Once he shares them with the other fish, he comes to feel included and even happier.

This story relates to friendship because of the idea of sacrifice and sharing. It also teaches students how important it is to be kind to others and how words can hurt.

Summary: Enemy Pie is about a young boy who see's the new boy next door, Jeremy, as an enemy. Jeremy laughed at him when he struck him out and never invites him to play. The young boy asks his dad if he's ever had enemies and how to go about this. His dad suggests making "enemy pie" and the special ingredient is to spend an entire day with your enemy. After playing together all day, he realizes Jeremy isn't that good of an enemy. After eating the delicious "enemy" pie together, they end up making plans to play the next day and becoming friends.

This is a funny story about how you can find a friend in an "enemy". This story is an example of how you can start new and unexpected friendships and how much better it feels to have a friend rather than an enemy.

Summary: This children's book tells the story of a lonely little dragon named Dylan who is in search of a friend to play with. He finds a bunch of young children on the playground, but unfortunately, they are afraid of Dylan since he is a dragon and is different from them. Each day, Dylan tries going back to the playground to befriend the children in hopes that they will give him a chance even though he is different from them. As the story continues, Dylan and the children find that they can in fact be friends and have fun together! Dylan enjoys taking the children on rides through the valleys and mountains on his back and the children enjoy having Dylan come and visit every day.
This book relates to our topic of friendship since it discusses how difficult it can be to make friends and that at first, children may be weary of others who are different from them. This story portrays the message that friends may surprise you and the differences people have make them unique and allow them to bring something special to the table.

Summary: The story starts with describing a typical household family: mom, dads, cousins, Grandma, pets, etc. Then it says that family does not have to be only who you are related to, and school can be a family, too. A classroom is like a home. It emphasizes respect, kindness, and individuality in the classroom through examples. Many students have things in common, but differences are what make students unique. It is okay to make mistakes because students are in school to learn. Students will always be there for you and the classroom is a team and a family.

This book relates to friendship because it emphasizes repeatedly that school is like a community and a family where relationships will be made. The book emphasizes that a classroom is made up of students that respect each other and care for each other, and friendship is a central theme.
