This event is significant because it is considered to be the first large scale protest against segregation in the US. It is also significant because it introduces us to a young pastor who eventually because an important figure in the civil rights movement, Martin Luther King Jr.

The photo above depicts the protests that arose from this boycott and how Black peoples would rather walk then sit on a segregated bus and contribute to this segregation. This protest was first started by Rosa Parks who refused to get up from a spot in the “Whites only” section on the bus

This event is significant because it was the first time that schools were desegregated and Black students were allowed to attend previously all white schools. It is also important to note the block that the governor of Arkansas put up to stop the new Black students from coming into the school, it took the president Eisenhower sending a military escort to get the students into the school.

The photo above depicts the military escort that was sent to get the nine Black student who would attend Little Rock Central High School into the building safely. This photo is significant because it shows how the government is on the side of equality (for the most part) and is ready to contribute to the equality of all people.

The Freedom Riders were protestors who boarded charter buses through the Southern states and protested against segregated bus stations. When these Freedom Riders tried to use the “Whites only” restrooms and eating areas they were met with aggression and serious violence from the police and being arrested several times.

The photo above is significant because it shows the military presence that was put in place to try and stop these freedom riders. It is also a response to all of the protests against these charter busses and attempting to stop them.

Martin Luther King Jr’s speech “I Have A Dream” is a pivotal point in the civil rights movement, MLK Jr was a very educated man having graduated with a Phb which was unheard of at the time as he was black. The speech has references of the Founding Fathers of American and The Bible and an improvised riff at the end.

The photo above displays MLK giving his speech to the 250,000 people who came to listen. This was a pivotal moment in the Civil Rights Movement and granted MLK the Noble Peace Prize.

President Kennedy was shot in Dallas Texas, there are many mysteries and controversies that surround his death, many Americans lost faith in the government because of this. Kennedy was a very progressive president and was a supporter of the Civil Rights Movement, the primary suspicion for his murder was because of this, regardless, hundreds of thousands attended his funeral as he was a very beloved president.

The photo above was taken after president Kennedy was shot and the car begins to speed off to the hospital. The significance of the photo is a sort of “moments after a disaster” and when this first aired on TV and the news stations talked about it, it was a huge subject.

This march is significant because of it’s size and impact, the march began in Selma and ended in the town of Montgomery, Alabama (one of the most racist states at the time). MLK got involved as well and was a relatively peaceful protest until three White supporters were attacked by the KKK. This protest reached national news and resulted in President Johnson singing a bill which allowed Black people to vote.

The photo above depicts the protestors peacefully approaching some police officers who seem to be very agitated and aggressive. It is significant because it gives a much clearer picture of how both sides approached the issue, with one being calm and peaceful and the other being less calm.

Malcom X was a Muslim Minister and was a leader in Black Civil Rights, he preached that “any means necessary” should be used to move forward on Black Rights. Malcom X was heavily influenced in his own preaching by Elijah Mohammad who was the leader of the popularly called “Black Muslims”, he began to advocate for the same things as Elijah Mohammed and was known as a “fiery orator”.

The photo above is one of Malcom X after he was shot being rushed out of Audubon Ballroom in Washington Heights.

The Black Panther Party was a political party which fought (often with violence) for Black Rights such as police brutality, fair employment and organizing events to help poverty. The party was eventually dissolved by the FBI who named them as a communist group and would fabricate incriminating evidence.

The photo above depicts the Black Panther Party at one of their organized events, a photo of them in action. It is significant because from the photo we can see they are all wearing the same thing to display a sense of unity and a “we are stronger together”.

The Watergate scandal began with several burglars being caught tampering with office phones and stealing documents, they were found to have a connection with president Nixons re-election campaign. Nixon took aggressive measures to prevent this from spreading to the public but after reporters Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein revealed Nixons connection he resigned from office.

The photo above is the cover of the news when Nixons connection to the burglars who broke into the Democratic National Committee was revealed and he was forced to resign. It is significantly because it was a huge moment for Americans as they lost faith in their government and a new age of elections had entered where all candidates were carefully watched so as to make a proper decision.

The Vietnam war was a conflict originally between North and South Vietnam, North Vietnam was communist and this caused America to get involved and back South Vietnam. This war was very controversial for many Americans as it originally had nothing to do with America and they’re involvement was heavily questioned.

The photo above shows people protesting this war and the crowd seems quite large, demonstrating how many people disagreed with this war. It is significant because it demonstrates a large number of people protesting something which eventually caused the government to do something about the issue.
