In the early 1800’s the constitution began as a document that was considered to be, “‘of reasonable length, full and plain in it’s provisions, and well considered and well arranged by it’s authors, who embraced many of the wisest and soundest men of the state’” (2). By the end of the 1800’s however, more and more was being added. Today the Ohio Constitution is the tenth longest in the U.S and, “in a condition that does not produce the same praising words as it did in 1851” (2). Since it’s beginning it has grown a lot, “This equates to a current constitutional length 8.5 times longer than the 1802 constitution and more than 5.5 times longer than the 1851 constitution as adopted” (2).

Like every other constitution, the Ohio constitution is set up to protect it’s citizens. In order to adapt to each state, “States must aim to create a constitution that is flexible and adaptable to potential changes” (3). They must determine that all subject matters are essential and must be kept simple so assist to not micromanage the government.
