Observations - Reflection 
a) beautiful leaves - realization of how occupied we are in our day to day lives.It made me feel overwhelmed as it triggered the idea of how my grandfather used to say that we do not give the universe enough time, to appreciate the Almighty's beauty that is reflected in  nature.
b)air -peace, after spending quite some time in isolation post Covid and leaving the confined space of my hostel room or a classroom made me feel very peaceful and relaxed.
c)sound of foot steps-I felt as if i was mindful of the movement in my body and was present in the now.

2)bottle (trash)-Used plastic bottles are not difficult to spot on campus especially in grounds.A quick reminder for me to be mindful about disposing off trash in a proper manner.
3)smart card- I was sure when i saw it that i had to post it on the Lums Online Forum in order for the recipient to collect it from me.It was interesting how our problem solving mind kicks in immediately we sense something is wrong.

We had a discussion on the meaning of “thinking through materials” which meant interacting with them on a primary level. We then participated individually in a making activity. The material provided to us was paper. First we had to do anything we could do with a sheet of paper at the given moment. Second, we had to do anything we could to a sheet of paper without using any tools. The third part called for us do anything to the paper without touching it. We also had to list and document everything we were doing and how we felt while doing it. We entered Lawrence Gardens from the in gate. Ma'am instructed us that we have one hour and we need to keep the categories of the peripatetic box.We were reminded of how this was the time that we had to shoot the maximum content.
I could see a huge space  in front of me.What caught my eye at first was this huge jumping castle and  the number of children   jumping on it.It seemed like they had coordinated movements as they were moving up and down at the same time.
Moreover, there were many interesting enlarged and miniature version of objects displayed as art.
We saw this hand with 5 fingers curled up displayed in the form of a large rock, there were mini remote controlled cars, candy floss, other food stalls around us.
As we started taking the walk further we reached a place which seemed an architectural bliss with its brick structured floor and the  lake way  created with blue tiles  in between. We observed men lying and sleeping under the sun, with no disturbance noticed on their face.There were also some men offering food like chai/coffee and other snacks.They were enthusiastic servers who felt the need to offer something to drink and eat to their new guests.
After slow looking for a while i reached a place which seemed like heaven on earth.There was a huge part of the garden with a C shape brick structure made on its wall.I sat with another peer of mine to take a picture there. One thing we noticed was that the texture of the flowers and plants was something we were not used to seeing before.The flowers seemed "edgy" if that can be used to identify them informally.Some of them seemed to have spikes on them, which was cute amusing.
After some of these observations we came back to ma'am.I saw the "gajray wala" there and could not help myself but observe the freshness, colors and beauty of the flowers.The smell was intoxicatingly fresh, and one could not resist taking those flowers home.
There was also a woman, sitting on the ground wearing a pink shalwar kameez making straw bags and other objects  with the help of yellow straws.She seemed to do her work with utmost dedication and focus.I had a small interview with her where i asked her what drove her to this work.She said her husband used to perform this but when he got sick he could not work and hence, she had to take over.
Furthermore, ma'am sent us for another round of observations to take video footage.
Danial, Areeba and I took a small hike and i recorded a time lapse of the entire journey and took video footages of the flowers, and various textures etc.
Lastly, we all gathered again and moved towards the bus and left after one of the most wholesome experiences we have had in a while.


Reflection
I was genuinely surprised as to how well maintained Bagh-e -Jinnah was.There was people cleaning it constantly and maintaining the beauty of the scenic place.
For some reason i did not expect such diligence from the staff and authorities there.This was clearly a surprise.I remember i came back home and called my grandmother as she has been a back fan of the gardens and told her how i can relate to her now.
I also realized that we always appreciate it for its green beauty but i had a SIMRAN moment from 'Dilwale Dulhanya Layjayeingay" as the yellow flowers reminded me of the yellow "khayth" that her and Raj (Sharukh Khan ) would romance in.
I could also recall how the gardens were similar yet different as well from when i came to them previously.I think i was about 10 and i still remember my aunt got me here and we had a small picnic.I could feel this relation when Danial, Laraib, Areeba and i sat here and made our notes and identified our slow looking by reflecting upon it.
The whole experience seemed meditative as mentioned in the reading Wander Lust by Rebecca Solnit, it felt like as one was walking they were meditating and it was such a high that no one would prefer taking a pause.When i look back at my childhood and when i previously came all i can recall is that the garden for some reason seems smaller to what it seems today! This feeling of nostalgia reminded me of how life was so simple then without any mobile phones.
One could just enjoy that badminton, cricket and picnic without worrying about posting it on instagram or snapchat.

My experience reminded me of "Eleven Walks with Expert Eyes" and my reflection comment on the reading.The way the writer explains a simple walk as an instrument of observation highlights the importance of 'mindfulness.' The next line talks about trying new things, makes one feel how robotic life has become and how redundant we are to have new, interesting and thought provoking experiences despite knowing that they capture the true essence of life.
Something very similar is what i realized while conducting this exercise.The idea that the entrance of SDSB has a shop which also has such similar objects and stationary but one never chooses to focus on those in the hustle and bustle of the day!
It was interesting how one group had to comment on the findings of another group and how they had described their painting representing an elevated stone on top of the see.
One thing that this exercise helped me identify was the importance of PERSPECTIVE. I may be looking at an idea and someone else as well and we could have the exact same findings and observations.
The idea of the angle is also imperative when slow looking.The majority of us forget how important it is to observe from different angles as it changes the complete wavelength and helps one observe something more holistically.

Color
There were many colorful logos, the one that caught my eye the most was the Yellow Mcdonalds "M."Moreover, the white floor and the tables made the space predominantly white.
It reminded me of a blank white canvas, just like we paint on a white canvas with a variety of different colors.

Sounds
I could hear conversations between the customers and the staff, kids crying, sound of greetings amongst the waiters and the customers, loud noise of giggles, sound of the chair screeching on the floor, sound of the mop on the floor, sound of utensils and machines....

 

Smells
There was an amalgamation of a variety of aroma as the place was filtered with a mix of restaurants.However, the most identifiable smell was that of a place extremely stuffy and this remained despite the  food court being air Conditioned.I  believe this was a result of the food remains that were not disposed off properly.
I could also smell a certain air freshener smell, as there was a  janitor constantly coming and spraying it in the court.

Zone of crisis
If i had to choose one word to describe the food court, it would be crisis/chaos.There was no patience amongst the customers for what they wanted and how.It was an amalgamation of impatience, order delays and irritated expressions.
I noticed how there was a sigh of relief for the customers who got their orders.
That just made me realize how much our nation loves food! Its like as soon as food comes one forgets about all the chaos prior to that.

 Zone of irritation
Many customers were extremely irresponsible with disposing off their food.Despite being provided with bins all over the food court, i could see food all over the trays, tables as well as the floor.Moreover, there were tissues being wasted and thrown away.Receipts being dumped on chairs or tables and not  being thrown away.

Zone of association
it was interesting to see the food court from a holistic point of view. It seemed very similar to how the food court at Emporium Mall is.I visited it last week, and it made me question why all food courts have a similar structure.
I could also associate with the impatience with regards to relating with the customers as i myself am someone who is impatient when it comes to being hungry!

Zone of  change

I realized how kids today are different from how we used to behave when we were young.I could see how they were giving their parents a tough time in not eating, refusing to sit in the baby chair or lowering down their noise levels.I remember how my brother, my cousins and I were always receptive of what our parents instructions. More so, we were not allowed to use any gadgets till a very significant part of our childhood but the kids today refused to eat in public without their favorite rhyme/cartoons on their Ipad or smartphone.

1)I remember once my mother scolded me for not wearing a dupatta to the market.I could not understand why she was so concerned about my dressing despite her not ever forcing me to wear it anywhere else while socializing.
Hence, one prominent memory from liberty market was my parents emphasis on what i would dress and go there as they were very concerned as to the rising cases of harassment in such market places.
2)Moreover, i cannot forget how this has been my go to market place before every Eid as it was always the one with the most reasonable variety of stalls and vendors ready for extensive bargaining.When i thin of liberty the first think that comes to my mind is bangles.


And 5 reflection  lines about the place

2) 2 Incidents:
a. Old Lahore has the most delicious desi food. Old and New Food Street are the place to be, mainly because of how beautiful and scenic the Badshahi Masjid looks. But as wonderful as the experience is, it is necessary to be cautious as druggies and various pickpockets roam free, especially at night. I remember how near an experience I had with a group of them when I was out with my family to buy some khussas and eat at Haveli. It terrified me to the point that I would not go there without my brother. 

b. Music and dance run deep in Lahore. The people residing in Old Lahore are very creative and gifted. My experience with them occurred when I met two male musicians while having a late-night birthday dinner with my family. They uplifted the whole ambiance and atmosphere by singing old songs and customizing them with the names of my family members. A random kid also joined in by dancing to the songs. Good heart-filled laughter was the response towards their performance. 


3) Reflection:
Culture lies within this place as you see modern buildings with vintage ones, proper roads, and bridges with old tiny galis (streets). You see how time has impacted the area, but the people remain as gifted in creativity as before. Diversity within the community also exists, yet they remain united as one front. It's also the roots calling its offspring to come back and get in touch with the actual representation of Lahore.

2) 2 Incidents:
a. My grandmother's house is in Gulberg, and I am quite close to her. Thus, this place has a major hold on my heart. It is also my father's house, and my relationship with him has always been one of the things I cherish the most. It is even more so as I have always been told how I am almost similar in my personality to him. I spent most of my childhood days in this house and what I remember the most is how dramatic I was at being angry at my father for not getting me ice cream once. And then proceeded to not give me attention when I was angry.

b. One of the most painful memories I have is of me falling down the stairs at my grandmother's house. The scar this incident left still exists and reminds me to never run down the stairs. 

3) Reflection: 
Grandparents are a blessing to their grandkids. They make sure that the grandkid is always filled with love and care. Moreover, they make sure the kid knows they aren't alone. The house itself consists of many memories, good and bad, but what it represents the most is how much I have grown since then. Emotionally. Physically. Mentally. 2) 2 Incidents: 
a. This area is built circularly, yet I have often found myself lost in its ways. The traffic in Model Town doesn't exist in comparison to the traffic outside Lahore. But the number of times I have found myself in front of a locked gate after 10 pm whilst going home is too big of an amount. These locked gates always terrified me. It showed security for sure but it also made me anxious, as it kept me from going home. And Google Maps was never a help in this matter as the closed gates never showed up on it. Hence, one prominent memory of this place was the feeling of being lost.

b. Memories are filled in me where I would go to Model Town to visit my friends. Friends who would help calm me down, listen to my rants and guide me towards what action I should take further. Moreover, Model Town also reminds me of my friend's wedding and her dance practices. And dancing has always been 
my emotional vent. So the significance of Model Town in my life is of the utmost. It reminds me of all the good times I have spent and all the bad times I have overcomed.

3) Reflection:
The houses vary from huge established ones to small quiet ones. Yet the warmth I felt in each one of those houses that I visited was enormous. And it is like what Robin Hubb said, "Home is people. Not a place. If you go back there after the people are gone, then all you can see is what is not there anymore." Hence, the good vibes and warm feeling I feel for Model Town are due to the people residing there. And if they leave, maybe just maybe, I would not feel the same way as I do right now. 2) 2 Incidents:
a. I remember going to the Wagah Border when I was little to see the parade. It was no short of a show. I was in awe with all the guards running and stamping their feet. Loud music coming from both sides to represent their patriotism. The crowd going crazy with every passing moment. Blow horns and flags everywhere I looked, even in my own little hands. The trip was very dear to me as it made me love my country even more. However, I remember my mother making sure I was next to her throughout the trip, as getting lost in an unknown place like the Wagha Border occurred frequently. 
b. The next time I visited Wagah Border, COVID was prevalent. This time it was to show my little cousins the culture and history of Pakistan. It refreshed my memories and bond with Pakistan. But it also made me sad. How loving and energetic the people of Pakistan were, COVID had drained all of it. The crowd was less than how it used to be. Distance had to be maintained as well. The chaos I saw before had diminished. Pickpocketing and highly competitive pricing occurred more often now. The fun aspect of the blow horns, the flags, and the face painting was all commercialized. 

3) Reflection: 
Some places hold part of your identity. This place was one of them. I wish every Pakistani visits Wagah border at least once in their life to see how wonderful patriotism can be. It's not always just for wars/times of conflict that a person may be patriotic. It can also be these times of celebrations. I salute the soldiers who do this show daily and the amount of energy and willpower it must take for them to conduct it.

2) 2 Incidents

I once went to Lawrence gardens  for a picnic when i was 10 with my entire family.I still remember my brother and i were playing badminton and i fell.When my mother turned around i sat there crying.However, soon i was alright after sh offered me some sandwiches and showed me the place around.

The second incident was when i went after years this time and realised how considerate the staff there is.This man came up to me and was super excited to offer some snacks, it seemed as if they had been waiting for a while to offer people. I love hoe he smiled and said "mai apko chai lakar dayta hoon best!" The energy with which we were served despite sitting on the ground, it felt like one of the best chai sessions i have had.


3) Reflection

2 Incidents:
a. Polo ground in Cantt is a place of awe for me. For being astonishing, for being scary. As much as I loved the greenery and the atmosphere at the Polo ground, the horses scared me the most. And the reason is genuine as they made me anxious and nervous. My experience with most animals was not that nice for me. Polo ground also proved true to this testimonial as a near experience made me realize how frighteningly beautiful horses are when one almost struck my friend. 

b. Cantt is a place I hated in the beginning but then grew to love. And it is because my best friend shifted there. The incident I refer to the most with Cantt is how my best friend and I would play with our dolls and their dollhouses all day long. And as night would come, I would not want to go home. I would rather prefer to stay the night so we could continue with our play date. And this would always result in my mother scolding me and dragging me back home. 

Reflections:
Memories hold such a significant aspect of a place. They drag your emotions from negative to positive or vice versa. a. My family loves going to the main market to have their favourite dessert whilst sitting in the car which is the thoothi and kulfi. During the COVID days, it was the one thing we all enjoyed doing the most. Hence, crossing the area always remind me to pick those desserts up. 
b. The area is always filled with a huge amount of cars. I remember once I got lost while coming back from cloth shopping with my mother. We could not find our car nor was my driver picking the phone up. After 10-15 minutes of wait, did we find our car hidden behind a huge van. 

Reflection:
Sometimes a similar taste and liking can go a long way to stabilize a bond. The colors were eye-catching but not too vibrant, the museum was silent but not boring and this provided the perfect venue for our target audience.

4. Hanging light in the very heart of the museum.
5. Japanese porcelain from the 18th century. It is part of their crockery collection.
6. A metallic sculpture of two children

The idea was to incorporate a pamphlet with a QR code and 2 forms of presentations.One to gauge if children are interested in visiting the museum and second to mentally prepare them. Keeping this research in mind, we shortlisted and presented certain ideas such as:
  1. Keeping as low on sound as we could
  2. Not overwhelming the child with too many vibrant colors
  3. Avoiding fast video formats such as time lapse
  4. Keeping the tool kit as minimalistic as possible 
  5. Recommending wearing headphones
  6. Being specific with instructions to avoid information overload, such as clearly explaining wear to exactly take ones shoes off before entering the museum
