ICT Capability Explained

Within this lesson the ICT General Capability that was focussed mainly consisted of the Communicating with ICT, students were required to collaborate with other peers and teacher to discuss exactly what they thought would happen throughout the "Slushee Sludger" activity, this shows how students comprehend what was shown to them and answer whether they believed the machine would produce a certain flavour based on the options given. Also focussed on within the lesson was the investigating aspect, students were required to assess and comprehend the information given. In this instance the "Slushee Sludger Machine" was used as an online resource to select, evaluate and represent data or information. These ultimately allowed the student to engage with topic to develop an understanding of probability within an ICT context.

An informal assessment is conducted at the end of the lesson with intention to gage students knowledge on basic probability. The criteria involved is linked to the Objective stated at the start of lesson, which was, " Students will be able to distinguish the difference between possible, not possible and definite. They will be able to understand the chance of outcomes through answers of maybe, no or yes. This in mind, questions involved in the reflection of the lesson includes on students needing to draw conclusions from their exploration task involving the die to show understanding of what possibilities rolling a die can provide you with. Groups will be able to identify that with a die of 6 faces, it is impossible for students to roll a 7.

Within this lesson I have touched on how students can begin to represent their data that was gathered over the exploration task. Example of this is, "Write your most frequent occurring number as a fraction". This forces students to engage with the lesson further and understand that with possible outcomes or rolls, how many times did a frequent number come out. The table that groups were to write in their workbooks create a basis of the statistic and analysis topic of Grade 4 Mathematics that is apart of the Australian Curriculum.
