2: How does Will’s behavior towards Alyce change over the course of the chapter? What does this change reveal about her?

Will's behavior towards Alyce changes over the chapter by at first Will was bad mocking her " 'Dung Beetle, give me a kiss,' called the boy with red hair." -page 36 and refused to use her new name and used beetle. At the end of the chapter Will was very grateful

" 'You have pluck, beetle.'

He is very grateful and uses her new name which means he is accepting her for who she is.

The change reveals even thought she hates this guys guts because of all the bullying and mocking of her. she still could not just let him die she could not live with herself.

4: What is the significance of Alyce’s dream?

The significance of Alyce's dream is her hoping that everyone is accepting her new name and who she is not a beetle or a brat she is now Alyce a new person and a new belonging. -Rita

Alyce's name symbolizes a new identity and that she is a person that it meaningful it also symbolises her character.
3 a. Alyce's sense of right and wrong is very different from the village boy since she stayed and helped the boy that was mean to her even though he made fun of her on page 37 "no one was there except for beetle and the tree" this explains how she has a sense of good nature and she didn't leave like the village boys
3 b. The village boys senses of right and wrong show that they aren't really nice people on page 37 "knocked one another aside in attempts to get out of there to a place they had never left." the boys left there friend to die instead of trying to help there friend which show that they cant be trusted and they're not his actual friends.

Alyce's sense of right and wrong is different because she thinks that helping and being kind to people, animals, and objects is the right thing to do. "Very slowly, inch by inch, as the boy struggled not to skink, she crept out until the tip of the branch nearly touched the water. 'Grab it, Will.'" (Cushman, 38).
Alyce's dream may be significant because her dream was mentioned, and normally, dreams in stories are never mentioned, except if they are important.

1 -> Beetle's new name "Alyce" symbolizes her new identity, she feels prideful and recognized now that she has a new name and how people now call her that name. She feels confident of her name.

2 -> Will's behavior changes over the course of the chapter because once Will is in the water and is vulnerable he starts acting kind and desperate for her to save him. Before he was in that situation, he was acting rude towards Alyce calling her names and attempting to tell her to do things she didn't want to do. "Dung Beetle, give me a kiss,' called the boy with red hair" (Cushman 36). But after Will became vulnerable and was inside the water needing assistance, his behavior changed starting to act desperate towards Alyce. "Beetle, help me. Throw me something" (Cushman 38). This change reveals how Will is starting to act kind to her and she is gaining more self-esteem and confidence overtime.

2. Over the course of chapter 6, Will's behavior towards Alyce changes a lot. The text states," ' Dung beetle, Dung beetle, you must be a feared, so far from your dung' they chanted"(Cushman, 37). This shows that the boys, which include Will, were teasing Alyce. Later in the chapter, it says," 'You have pluck, Alyce' "(Cushman, 39). This evidence shows that Will is starting to be nice to Alyce and recognizing her as a person.

Wills behavior towards Beetle has changed over the course of the chapter. At the start of the chapter Will is rude to Beetle and mocks her. The text states on page 36," Dung Beetle, give me a kiss, called the boy with red hair. A little bit later in the scene Will is drowning all of his friends have left him and the only way that Will would survive is if Beetle saved him. The text states on page 37," Can't, said Will, spitting water and floundering. Throw me something to grab." Beetle saves Will, he tells Beetle," You have pluck beetle, you have pluck Alyce." This reveals that Will is thankful for Beetle and gives her the respect she deserves for calling her Alice.

Ilina#1- Alyce's new name symbolizes her not being poor and not living in a dung heap. This new names symbolizes who she is now and how her identity and is now changed from before.

Ilina#4- The significance of her dream was to show how she wants recognition for everything. It also shows her progress from chapter 1 and how she grew because in chapter 1 she dreamt of nothing but now she is finally dreaming of who she wants to be.

Alyces new name symbolizes her and gives her an identity. Alyce was called dung beetle for the most but now since she has a name she feels more recognition and esteem. She feels like she is a person who has great traits and it has a lot of meaning to her.

Throw me somethin'." Beetle shook her head."(38). beetle has a sense of good character because she chose to save the boy even though he was scared.

The significance of Alyce's dream is that she is gaining hope. in Alyce's dream the midwife becomes the king's wife. That symbolizes how she has hope now.

At the start of the chapter Will was a bully "Dung Beetle, give me a kiss,' called the boy with red hair" and at the end of the chapter Will was kind to Alyce "'You didn't run with the others,' he said. 'That were brave, Beetle." This change reveals that Alyce will treat you well if you treat her well.

3. Alyce's sense of right and wrong is the normal right and wrong "'Naw, I be not brave,' she said. 'I near pissed myself. I did it for else you'd have drowned and gone to Hell, a drunken loudmouth bully like you, and I would have helped send you there and I could not have that now, could I?'" The boys have a sense of what is wrong is right and what is right is wrong "'Dung Beetle, give me a kiss,' called the boy with red hair."

4. Alyce's dream symbolizes her getting recognized by higher, powerful and wealthier people in her village.

Alyce's sense of right is to help people and she knows when its time to be more serious about things like one example from the book is "'You didn't run with the others, ' he said 'That were brave, Beetle.' 'Naw, I be not brave,' she said. 'I near pissed myself.
