"Comforting is not about any one gesture at one time. Comfort is lots of little things that all add up" (pg. 73). I chose this quote because it emphasizes the importance of continuing to check in on ones you love because the comfort will build over time.

"54% of Americans report feeling as though no one knows them well" (pg. 69). I chose this quote because it is concerning and shows the importance of what we do as comfort dog handlers.

"Studies show how brain chemistry is positively affected by physical touch with another living being" (pg. 64). I chose this quote because I believe some people underestimate the power of physical touch. I think that is one of the reasons why pets are so powerful, it's because physical touch is the main way they give affection.

"Social media changes how we communicate with those grieving. Leading to a rise in the sending of money and things replacing one to one, face to face support" (pg. 57). I chose this quote because it reminded me that we do this way too often. It seems as if everyone is "too busy" to take a moment and connect with another person when they need it the most.

"It is less common for families to care for the elderly in their homes" (pg. 58). I chose this quote because I think that this is not the best scenario. People need their families and their friends at all stages of life and especially when they are elderly.

"Over time pop culture has placed an emphasis on self-care and activities that people do alone" (pg. 64). I chose this quote because I didn't realize how much being alone was viewed as a positive thing. I knew about individualism in our society but I forgot how much it impacts our lonely epidemic.
