As a new grad FNP, I will be looking beyond the base salary and consider other aspects of the compensation package, such as benefits, paid time off, continuing education opportunities, and retirement plans and let’s not forget malpractice insurance. Although I will be working for Indian Health Service, just like any other position I have held, I always do research about a company and what benefits are offered. I am excited to work for the Native American communities and I believe I bring skills that would benefit the communities, such as my many years as a cardiac nurse and my experience with the elderly population. I embrace different cultures but especially embrace the Native American culture. There is a salary range for FNP positions, and it ranges from $103,000 to $155,000. Ideally, I would like to ask for $115,000-$120,000. I am considering moving to Flagstaff where the cost of living is higher than here in Phoenix, therefore, I will have to take that into consideration as well. According to one site, the average NP salary in Flagstaff is $132,630. Because I am getting older, medical benefits, retirement packages, and student loan repayment are big factors for me.
