         <description><![CDATA[<div>Goal: was to reduce crime and poverty and improve the quality of life, by making it impossible for people to get their hands on alcohol.<br>- Midnight,January 16th, 1920, US went dry.<br>Speakeasies- or illegal bars became more common than the legal ones that existed before prohibition.<br><br>Bootleggers- people who made their own alcohol, which could cause blindness, rotgut and death.<br><br>Rum runners- smugglers of imported whiskey, rum and other liquor by sea and over land to the United States.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Women were too aware of the negative effect that alcohol was having on families. Some men would drink the days wages away at the local speakeasy, as the result there was often little money left to pay for food, shelter and clothing for their families.<br>Many women became active in the Temperance Movement: educating the public and encouraging them to abstain from drinking.</div>]]></description>
