         <description><![CDATA[<div>Prisons were in poor conditions. Some example are they didn't have enough food for every prisoner and they didn't have good heaters during winter. They also had cramped conditions. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Massachusetts was the first state to use tax to set up public schools free form religion. The downside was only the wealthy can go. Many Americans couldn't' read or write. Many teachers would discipline their students by slapping their knuckles with a ruler. </div>]]></description>

The Ten Percent Plan was when 10% of the voters of state took an oath of loyalty to the Union, the state could form a new government and adopt a new constitution that banned slavery. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Reconstruction Act of 1867 was an act to remove the governments of all the southern states that had refused to ratify the 14 Amendment and replaced them with military rule until they ratified the 14th Amendment and let African Americans vote. Education, Infrastructure,  and Women’s Rights were all under Radical Reconstruction. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Abraham Lincoln was assassinated on April 15, 1865 at Petersen House,  Washington, D.C. He was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth with a .44-caliber pistol. Before Lincoln was assassinated, Lincoln had premonitions and dreams about his death and the next day at 7:22 AM he was killed.</div>]]></description>

Confederates had farmers who fight better than factory workers. They had Profitable economy based on cotton exports</div><div>But had a population of 9 million including 3.5 million of them being slaves. </div>]]></description>

         <title>Surrender at Appomattox </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Grant had captured Richmond by April 2, 1865. Grant offered a generous surrender terms and the Confederates had to give up their weapons and leave in peace. Over 600,000 people died which was around 2,600 Confederates and 360,000 Union. The war put an end to slavery. </div>]]></description>
