         <title>Deep water Horizon (BP) Spill</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>On April 20, 2010, 4.9 million barrels of oil spilled in the Gulf of Mexico. A surge of oil broke through the concrete core of an oil rig. Thousands of animals were plastered with oil, and 1/3 of the gulf coast was closed to fishing. $20 billion was given to affected citizens for compensation, and 1.8 million gallons of dispersants were pumped directly into the leak. Oil was manually removed from beaches.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

As a result, 1,000 miles of coastline were fouled, and hundreds of thousands of animals perished. Alaskan beaches are still polluted today. Exxon paid billions of dollars to clean the spill up. </div>]]></description>
