1. Classroom discipline - I have learned that classroom management is one of the most important parts of being a teacher. Establishing a classroom atmosphere that has clear rules and expectations will ensure that the class is inclusive and accepting.
2. Patience - I learned about how patient a teacher must be, especially in round two of teaching. Students will push my buttons and make me question why I even teach. But it's important to keep a level head, especially with tiny bodies. They need patience and forgiveness, each day being new for them.
3. Music Inclusion - Music can literally be involved in every lesson. And this should be the case. Music stimulates a different part of the brain and this is important for students in order to ensure that they are learning as much as they possibly can in ways that are engaging and encouraging for them.

1. Arts Inclusion - I always grew up as an artistic person and loved it when the arts were brought into the classroom. I understand now that you can't use everything with arts integration but any moment that you can is a great moment to use it. This also means I plan on getting to know my music, art, and physical education teachers in my school. Collaborating with them will make both our jobs more enjoyable and beneficial to our students.
2. Get involved - this is used in multiple ways. Get involved with parents by keeping in contact with them. Call home to tel good things their child did today instead of only bad things. Keep a weekly letter out and make sure they know the door is always open. Get involved in your school by knowing the teachers and staff all over the building as well as getting involved in their committees. Get involved in the community because this will show everyone that you really care about your students and community.
3. Find a mentor - your first year of teaching is going to be hard and full of surprises no matter how hard we try to be prepared. The best thing about it is there is always someone in your school that can help you.
HG

1. First, I have learned from this class that being prepared with your class expectations and rules is key to classroom success. Consequently, this class showed that if I prepare ahead of time and engage students early in classroom expectations my transition into teaching will be less stressful.

2. I have learned how important it is to integrate arts, especially movement and music, in the elementary general classroom. Because students in elementary school only get an hour of exposure to these types of arts per week, the classroom is a perfect place to integrate this type of creativity.
3. I have learned that art integration in the classroom has huge positive impacts on the academic, social, kinesthetic, and emotional skills of students. It is my responsibility as an educator to touch all students and their most effective way of learning. Consequently, the arts, and especially music, is a great way to reach students that may not fit average learning standards and need different strategies for teaching.
NB

1. Classroom management: I have learned that classroom management is one of the most important factors in having a successful classroom. In my future classroom I want to implement a classroom contract on the first day and hold myself and all of my student accountable all year long.
2. Art Integration: I have learned how important art integration is in the elementary classroom. In my future classroom I want to work closely with my schools art, music and PE teachers to come up with lessons that get my students moving and creative.
3. Dress for success: I have learned that dressing appropriately goes beyond just having proper professional clothes. Dressing appropriately for teachers will change how fellow teachers work with you and your students are more likely to pay attention and take you seriously. In my future teaching career I hope to dress for success everyday.
LR

One of my take aways from this semester involves being a proactive planner. As an educator you always need to be prepared for the unexpected and a lot of our readings in this course set that standard. Second, allowing at least two weeks to go over classroom rules and expectations at the beginning of the year is a vital aspect of the classroom environment. This establishes community within the classroom as their is mutual expectations for the students and the educator. Lastly, as a music course we have discussed multiple times on the importance of arts integration. Often the arts are a forgotten topic in schools these days and it is important as an educator to allow your students artistic opportunities to express themselves in your lessons. These three take aways will be elements I enforce in my own classroom to encourage positive classroom management and foundational relationships with my students.

JS

1. Classroom management: I've learned so much over this semester about classroom management that I think I can say I am more prepared for teaching than I was before. This is the first class where I got the chance to practice with this while actually teaching. I am sure once I start my student teaching next year I'll be able go back and remember.
2. Classroom preparation: This sort of goes with the classroom management as well. What I have learned was to prepare my classroom, such as materials around the classroom, classroom management to prevent future problems, and prepare oneself for what to come in your future classroom and with your future students.
3. Teacher Collaboration: By collaborating with other teachers, we are able to expand our lessons to teach multiple subjects or even make bigger projects for multiple classes. In my future classroom I will accept and ask to be able to work with teachers in projects or lessons. It could be with the art, music, physical education teacher, or even a regular grade teacher.
G.C.

1. Classroom Management: I have learned so much about classroom management. I have learned that it goes far beyond having clear expectations just to be discussed on the first day, but it's something to have everyday in your classroom. This class has prepared me for situations that will without a doubt come up in my classroom and how I should handle it. I will take these skills with me to my future classroom.
2. Arts Integration: it is so important to integrate different content areas such as music and movement into everyday lesson. This class has taught be how I can do that and it has made me more keen to integrate not just music, but art, and movement to my classroom.
3. Teaching is stressful and it's a hard job. But the success of your students makes it all that much worth it and I cannot even imagine myself doing anything other than this.
AR

1. Proactive discipline --> I leaned about the importance of having procedures, rules, expectations and plans set up and prepared even before a problem arises in order to maintain an efficient and productive classroom. Student have to feel safe, engaged and motivated in the class in order to feel like they are truly getting something out of School. It also helps us as teachers be prepared for any unexpected changes or "hiccups" during our day.
2. Arts integration --> I have always been a strong believer in the importance of arts in a person's life but this course helped me understand why they should definitely be introduced in the classroom. Arts bring people together, they help teach content through different methods, they make the material more interesting and they expand a student's overall knowledge about the world.
3. Positive attitude --> Teaching is a stressful and hard job, but it is also extremely rewarding. As first year teachers it is important for us to find mentors to guide us, and to remember that not all of our lessons will be perfect. Instead, we have to focus on maintaining a positive attitude, engaging our students and thinking (self-reflection) about what we can do to help out students and improve our lessons.
-MH
