AT&T has begun the 5G revolution with America's first mobile hotspot for 5G in December. 21. At first, the new network will only be available to the densest areas of 12 cities. Also, the millimetre wave spectrum AT&T utilizes is better suited for suburbs and cities than rural areas. 

Rural areas will not be left from the 5G world. However, it will be different in rural areas. It will open up innovative methods of living and farming. It's going to be a big deal, and a lot of its features haven't even been developed yet. 

But it likely will not offer rural homes all-inclusive high-speed internet access to Netflix this year, which is the thing rural people most would like and are the most annoyed at the moment.

The multi-gigabit speeds and the massive capacity you hear about with 5G is largely an urban phenomenon driven by the enormous range of the millimetre-wave spectrum that cannot travel far.

Autonomous Cars to help Rural Residents. Rural Americans are getting older, and families are relocating. Automobiles and trucks are vital to rural life. However, disabled or elderly rural dwellers might not be in a position to safely drive longer. Low-latency 5G networks could create autonomous vehicles. It's not short but within five years.

Technologically speaking, this will transform the lives of people who otherwise are stranded at home. (It'll also make roads safer for those who are having a party.) However, unanswered is whether autonomous cars can be afforded to seniors and disabled rural residents with a lot of incomes.

In the hope of reducing the broadband gap for rural areas, the order was backed by agricultural associations and Cheyenne City Mayor Marian Orr.

"From our perspective at the FCC, the stakes are just way too high with 5G to have it be a privilege of living in a big city," FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr told the Tribune Eagle. "So we've been focused on this digital divide, making sure that every community, including Cheyenne, has a fair shot at connectivity."

The update will refresh and clarify the language of an order in 2014 that was instrumental in helping bring 4G internet to the country. Due to the advancements in 5G, some wireless providers have faced delays in tower upgrades.

According to Orr 5G, connectivity is becoming more crucial for the development of sectors across the state, including agriculture, health care, and technology.

"Having that high-speed connectivity is so incredibly critical for the economy, but then it's also going to be very critical just as consumers," Orr stated.

While some state residents have benefited from technological advancements, others aren't afforded the same chances. Orr noted that the digital divide became more evident as Cheyenne school districts were forced online because of coronavirus.

"Not every neighbourhood in our community is as well-connected as the others, so it creates a disadvantage for some folks," Orr explained.

 5G 

A reliable, high-speed internet connection allows students, business owners and residents to achieve the fullest potential they can, no matter if it's for cattle farming or online learning. 5G is also a valuable tool for the state as it is working to diversify its economy primarily focused on blockchain.

"With blockchain technology is the need for fast data sharing and the ability to make transactions quickly. Connectivity is something we've all been waiting for, and people in the Blockchain community have also been," Orr said.

According to Carr, the upgrade is expected to boost broadband investment for remote America through two methods.

The first step is that the new order simplifies the process of upgrading existing towers to 5G.

The second reason is that by making it easier and more affordable to roll 5G networks in large cities, The order will allow more wireless providers to establish in smaller cities. For cities with large populations, like San Jose and San Francisco, they must pay an amount to sit in a room and discuss with officials in the local area about the possibility of 5G expansion.

According to Carr that the price of discussing 5G upgrades could be as high as $1,000,000. If carriers do not have to pay these charges, carriers will have the capital to invest in smaller communities.

"Where do those million dollars originate? It's from those capital budgets which are often that of transport companies. This means that small, rural communities do not have enough capital to construct their own," Carr said.
