         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Deluder Satan Act was created in 1647. It stated that, towns of a certain size must hire a schoolmaster to teach the local children. The idea was that people were being taught to read, so they could read the bible. If they could read the bible they could follow and know God's law. If they knew and followed God's law they were saved from Satan.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Middle Colonies</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>In the middle colonies it was up to the parents on whether or not their children were schooled, but in 1683 a law was passed that stated all children must be taught to read and write and trained in a useful trade. Towards the end of the colonial education in the middle colonies, there was a variety of local religions, so there were schools that were lead by different religious leaders.</div>]]></description>
