The best way for a teacher to approach using cognitivism in the classroom is to ask questions to help learners refine their thinking and recognize where they may be wrong. You want to approach topics that they may think they already know and introduce some new aspect to make them redefine something. Alternately, for entirely new topics, you want to draw upon background knowledge before you challenge existing ideas and create learning to wards amplification or change of those schemata.

Summarizing and note taking is another strategy that corresponds with cognitive learning theories. It is very important to ensure that students know how to take notes and summarize so that they are able to effectively pull out important information from the curriculum to make connections with their own previous knowledge. One important aspect of cognitivism is the idea that students need to process the information often in order to ensure that it is stored in long term memory. Unlike drill and kill memorization methods, cognitive learning helps students gain a deeper understanding of a subject. This improves recall in the long run , so learners can build upon past knowledge.

Cognitive learning theory is also apparent in concept mapping and virtual field trips. Concept mapping helps students to organize information that is taught. This can be used to help students to focus on an “essential question” and guide learning so that students focus on the important information they need to be learning.

Adults learn more effectively when they know why they are learning something in the first place. They need to understand how the concepts and ideas that they are going to learn can be applied to their own lives. At the onset, the why is more important than the how. Therefore, clear and specific purpose of all training materials has to be stated at the beginning. more over, the identified purpose should relate to the situations and challenges that the participants are facing. in addition, theories shown in any training course should include practical examples to show relevance.

The cognitivism theory embrace that adults are filled in for learning when they established a clear goal or objective for themselves . Self- directed learning can be achieved by asking learners what they want to learn and what expectations they have for the course. The teacher should give learners all the important tools to focus their efforts and facilitate learning. These should allow learners to direct their learning based on their unique needs and pace .

The design of the eLearning modules should promote the discovery of new information through inquiry. The right questions should be posed to stimulate critical thinking and drive the need to find new knowledge. Adults are usually more receptive towards problem- centered learning that gives them an idea of how to overcome challenges swiftly and effectively. The modules or subjects should tap into the learners' cognitive information processing by actively involving them in the discovery and analysis of new knowledge. Among Activities apply this cognitivism to eLearning are role plays and case studies. Learners should be given a chance to collaborate with each other and share insights as well as to bounce off their own ideas and opinions for discussions.
