    The purpose of Nya going on her journey is to go get water for her family.  If I spent my day getting water everyday I would be very tired and depressed because it is very hard to walk that far non stop.

    Water dictates Nya's life because she gets very tired and it takes a lot of time. "Heat. Time. And thorns." (Pg 1) This is very powerful because it took her all morning in the heat and then she gets dirty water. Later in the book on the start of chapter 2 "thorns littered the ground everywhere."(pg8) This means that it is even harder because the terrain is hard walk on.

    Character trait of Salva that allow him to keep going without his family is perseverance because in the artical  it says "...but now a deep buzzing pain in every part of him." (Pg 23) so that means he had to keep walking on an empty stomach and not knowing where his family is.
