I know this because at the end it said there were lights on trees, and music, and snow which indicates it is Christmas which means there are people there.

I think that what will happen is that people are going to find Gabriel and Jonas, and will let them celebrate Christmas with them for the first time. This is because during Christmas everyone Is cheerful and happy so I feel like if there where kids on the streets they would try to help them by at least getting them a place to stay, and by giving them food, then taking them to an Adoption center where they can get a home.

They continue sliding down the hill where there is a dome over top. They walk through this dome and right in front of them is a cabin playing this music. This cabin will have the same family in it from the memory of family that Jonas had previously received from the Giver. Once he passes through the dome all of the memories that both him and Gabe have will be transferred into the community, along with themselves re-entering the community. Everyone will have their own memories and memories of the past.

I believe that in the end Jonas was going through a memory of the holiday and he heard the singing but it wasn't actually real. There are many possibilities of what could have happened to Jonas and Gabriel at the end of the story. Due to some clues in the book I think that Jonas and Gabriel found elsewhere, a place where they could feel love. Towards the end of the book it tells us the Jonas see lights of different colors, hears music and is in the presence of snow. This makes me think that they arrived in a place that is celebrating Christmas. The memory of the family around a tree opening presents seem to be familiar with the scenery at the end of the book. I think that they will be found by a caring family who will take them in and care for them. They will gain a true sense of family and love.

I think what proceeds to happen next is the people that Jonas perceives to be present discover Jonas and Gabriel and take care of them. However, when they do find him, Jonas' condition has already been pronounced as obsolete given that he's not able to form complete thoughts by the end of the book. "Behind him, across vast distances of space and time, form the place he had left, he thought he has heard music too. But perhaps it was only an echo." (Lowry 168)

This indicates that Jonas isn't in the right state to draw conclusions because he is unsure whether he's actually apprehending music.

After they get off of the sled I think that they will knock on the door of the house and the people will see that they are in need and then they will basically adopt him and Gabriel. Then I think that something happens with him getting way more memories and his will go into the community causing panic and calmness because of the good and bad memories. And how is he going to feed both of them because of the snow, there won't be a lot of food, not a lot of easy food. Also, the last sentence says that it could have all been an echo meaning it might have been his imagination.

In the end, I think Jonas and Gabriel began to lose consciousness when he saw the sled. It is very much possible that seeing the sled was not a coincidence but at his state and mind, he most definitely could be hallucinating. His starvation could cause him to start hallucinating.

I think Gabriel and Jonas are going to be accepted into the community. It will be many changes for the both of them, but they will get used to it quickly without following all of the strict rules they had before. Here in the new community, they have freedom, and can live their life how they want to. I think they will both like experiencing the real world. I believe that at the end of "The Giver", Jonas and Gabriel sled down the hill and are accepted into the new community "elsewhere". This is mainly because of the sled Jonas finds, meaning that whatever place Jonas is attempting to reach allows for those types of items that his old community did not, meaning that this new community has choice and less censorship. As he sleds down, he hears music and singing as well, furthermore hinting that elsewhere allows previously censored things to be encouraged and accepted. As he reaches the bottom, Jonas feels hope and happiness as he notices bright lights and colors, with hope that the people below are waiting for him and Gabriel and they both will be saved.

I think that Jonas and Gabriel both fell unconscious to the hypothermia dying but what Jonas witnesses is probably a hallucination. I think this as it was very random for there to be a random sled at the top of the hill to be waiting for them and it isn't realistic. Also, no regular human can survive the conditions that they were in as they were very numb, could barely move and was very weak. In the end, I think Jonas lost consciousness and the sled, music, and lights might have all just been memories. Gabriel might have also passed out or even away. "...he could barely move his freezing, tired legs. But he began, suddenly, to feel happy" (Lowry 167). He was using his final strength, yet he was suddenly remembering happy times, which could be what his brain is doing before he passes away. Gabriel was beside him, and the ending doesn't describe him moving or doing anything as the book ends. Jonas was also remembering not only the memories he received, but his own special memories, too. He was forcing his eyes open and freezing so harshly that he was numb, but suddenly he felt joy and remembered memories that he once only had a wisp of.

But he keeps recalling things from his memories and seems to think they are real like the lights on Christmas morning. From this we can infer that the sound of music was only and illusion meaning the the rest of the sights had to be an illusion as well; making me wonder if Jonas had already went unconscious at the top of the hill and the sled ride was all a "dream". At the end of the story Jonas and Gabriel ride on a sled down a hill towards a town, and I think the Giver died because earlier in the story he had said that when his work was done he wanted to be with Rosemary, and as he was the only person with the memory of music, Jonas would not have known what it was unless the Giver gave it to him. This also would imply that the community has learned to live with the memories even if some of them are painful, and that the community now is wiser as a whole.

This means that Jonas did in fact survive and reach another community. It also talks about how he heard music and saw lights in colors. This means that he probably survived to see and hear these things. My final guess is that he passed out after he reached the new community. He must've had barely enough strength left to be conscious before he passed out.

I think this because he had the feeling that Elsewhere was near and that they would be safe. In the book "The Giver" it states that the Giver said to Jonas once he reaches Elsewhere he will know by hearing music, the rush of all the happy memories coming to him, and maybe the distant voice of The Giver. The memory the giver gave of being on the sled, going down the hill and Jonas's memory he truly wanted to feel most was love. Before the brink of death he holds onto that memory sharing it to Gabe one last time with him, closing his eyes imagining it. Elsewhere was him and Gabriel passing away with their memories to keep, and passing peacefully at the thought of love with the both of them. Twinkling lights, and the music. I believe that Jonas and Gabriel reach Elsewhere which turns out to be the world we live in, with music and color and all of the emotions we experience. I think this because in chapter 20, the Giver talks about hearing music before seeing color, and he says that he will give Jonas some music before he leaves. Jonas never gets to hear music, but then, at the end of the book, the author writes, "...he[Jonas] thought he heard music too." Maybe this is because he has entered our world, feeling joy and happiness, hearing music.

I think they make it around Christmas time, since when they got towards the end it started snowing. and when they started going down hill they heard music. but Jonas ether passes out from exhaustion or dies since the text states, "jonas felt himself losing consciousness and with his whole being willed himself to stay upright atop the sled, clutching Gabriel, keeping him safe. the runners sliced through the snow and the wind whipped at his face as they sped in a straight line through an incision that seemed to lead the final waiting, the elsewhere that held their past...for the first time, he heard something that he knew to be music." this explains to us that as he was heading down, losing his consciousness he did see elsewhere and knew that he made it threw everything. he might of passed out because if he did die, he would feel himself getting even more weak than he already was. but my theory is he made it, but passed out.

I think Jonas and Gabe had passed away at the end. In chapter 23, it mentions him reliving his happiest memories of everyone he cherished, and it's scientifically proven that your brain will replay your best memories for 7 minutes until your death. He also describes the experience while he slid down the hills as he loses his conscious, which people do when their losing their life.

At the end of the book, I think Jonas and Gabriel survived. I believe this because the details in the book tell me that, he found a sled and a saw people. This shows that he survived because he went through multiple weather changes that do not happen in the community. Another reason they survived is because Jonas and Gabe saw people at the end of the hill playing and singing music which also doesn't happen in the community. I almost believed that it was a dream because snow was a memory and could've happened in the dream, but rain. Rain wasn't a memory that Jonas was given meaning he had to escape the community to really feel the weather of rain and he did.

My prediction on what happens to Jonas and Gabriel at the end of the book is that they both find elsewhere. I believe that when you find elsewhere, you live in your favorite memory. I think that it is different for Jonas than the rest of the community because Jonas has memories and the community does not. the community probably goes to darkness or one of the memories they received when the old receiver, rosemary, got released. I think that what happened to Jonas and Gabriel at the end was them experiencing there last memory together. As they were on the sled, reaching there destination slowly they were fading away and dying. In my opinion, I believe that Jonas and Gabe made it to a new town and survived. I think this because in the end of the book, Jonas said he could see people. He said he saw them while he was sledding down the hill with Gabe. He also went through multiple weather and landscape changes such as hills, snow, and rough ground. Then, he made his own memory. I think that Jonas and Gabriel both died in the snow. Do to them not having a lot of food. They had to walk for days and on days which made him fell weak and hard for him to walk. When he saw the sled, he was probably hallucinated when he was walking for a long time. I think that the ending of "The Giver" has something to do with events unfolding back at the community. At the end of the story, Jonas says he can hear music coming from the place he had left. I believe that Jonas and Gabriel found an area without sameness past the mountain and lived with other people. I know this because the book "The Giver" states that there were people singing and that he saw there were lights that were Christmas colors. Gabriel and Jonas reached Elsewhere, which I think might be the world before Sameness, the world where the memories come from. Jonas says in the book that he was approaching "...the Elsewhere that held their future and their past." The memories come from the world in the past, but it could be that the world they think got buried in Sameness is actually still out there. My other guess is that it's a different community that rebelled against their Elders and received memories of life before sameness, and that's why they understand that Jonas and Gabriel are coming to them.

People would most likely go with the ending of Jonas and Gabriel making it to 'Elsewhere'. I, however, think this is false. The last moment in the book might be the last moment of Jonas' and Gabriel's life. In chapter 23, Jonas began to slowly crumble down as he is carrying Gabriel presumably up a mountain. But as he begins to fade, he suddenly receives a bright burst of hope as he remembers his good times with his family, friends, and The Giver. That warmth gave him strength to slowly but surely lift Gabriel and him up to the peak of the mountain, a little sled waiting for them. As the brothers slide down the snowy peak, Jonas begins to see what looks vaguely familiar to his Christmas memory. Alongside the happy memory, he begins to hear a sound he's heard very little about, but knows that it's a pleasant feeling - the sound of music. But as "The Giver" concludes its final chapter, it ends on a very peculiar note, its final words stating, "But perhaps it was only an echo." (168), implying that maybe Jonas and Gabriel didn't make it to elsewhere, and instead experienced one final memory - a memory representing what love truly means.

I believe that Jonas received a piece of the giver's last memory since he had died. In previous chapters, The Giver had mentioned if a Receiver or Giver dies the memories will be spread slightly across the rest of the community. It was implied that he was released because in the text it states," when my work is finished, I want to be with my daughter" (152 Lowry). What he means by his daughter is Rosemary who has already been released previously. In addition, Jonas saw colored lights on trees hinting that he had found a remote village separate from the community because of the unique colors.

Based on chapter 23 of "The Giver," I am inclined to believe that Jonas is still at the place where he is contemplating whether to continue persevering for himself and Gabriel, or to give up. Later at the end of this novel, Jonas supposedly makes it to another civilization with lights, music, and love after choosing to keep moving. However, at the end of this chapter, Jonas now realizes that he "had only thought he heard music... But perhaps it was only an echo" (Lowry 168). This leads me to believe that maybe earlier, Jonas had chosen the latter; drop the immobile bike into the snow and "to let himself and Gabriel slide into the softness of snow, the darkness of night, the warm comfort of sleep" (Lowry 65). If this is true, Jonas is lying in the snow, slowly dying, leaving Gabriel to die consequently.
