Being a first generation Latina in the world of private schools has been difficult. Our unique experience is the reason I wanted to take this initiative. I want to educate myself and girls at my school the instrumental change they can create. I also want to put an emphasis on social justice issues that directly correlate to Latinas at FSHA. In this organization I expand my social location by going out to Compton in East LA. There I work with mainly Latinx students and inspire an interest in STEM. By being a part of this program I have recognized the importance of diversity in STEM related fields. I have also recognized the disparity of extracurricular activities within these underprivileged schools. I am also able to analyze these students in comparison to students near La Cañada and I see that they really aren't all that different. It was a something I was really looking forward to all of middle school because I remember my sister going through it. It was really significant for me because after this graduation I was going to go to high school and leave behind a level of childhood. Growing up, high school was so significant for me and I major change.
