It is a very visual way to show the order that phonics skills are understood and should be taught, along with definitions of the phonics skill and examples of words for each section. It starts with just learning to speak with letter sounds and then short vowel sounds, and works it way up through the phonics skills until it gets to Greek and Latin Roots.

This kit is useful as it teaches important terminology that teachers and students should know about morphology. I can definitely see the recommended teaching sequence provided to be useful in the future as it guides the teacher in finding the best way to teach their students. The resource has fun games and activities that teachers can use to help their students stay engaged in the lesson. It also includes lessons and quite literally everything that a teacher would need to teach an engaging morphology lesson.

This breakdown shows an overview of what the specific expectations actually mean when it comes to literacy, which I feel would undoubtedly help an educator know the fundamentals behind all of the knowledge that comes with learning to read.

I chose to examine the Word Connections resource. It is useful at it contains 40 different lessons to work through with students which target different aspects of spelling. I also really liked that it focuses on multisyllabic and complex words. Overall this resource seems useful for J/I classrooms

I chose to look at Onlit (https://onlit.org/). This is an incredibly helpful website that has a variety of resources (videos, pdfs, etc.) that teachers can use to enhance their literacy teaching practice. What I think is especially intriguing is the many modules designed for teachers to support their professional development in the area of literacy. This ensures that they stay up to date and well-informed on literacy strategies.

This poster is very useful as an anchor chart for teaching students how to break apart and sound out words.

In recent times students have been taught to decode words using sight words (or a mix of sight and spelling it out). This will help older students who don't have a basis of knowing how to sound things out

This is a great resource which is aligned with the Ontario Curriculum. It provides a variety of lessons and resources as well as professional development opportunities for teachers. It also has a French learning section :)
