1) By whom and when it was invented
It is a "solar power toilet" made in 2012 at the California Institute of Technology in the U.S.

2) How it got started
Bill and Melinda Gates foundation began a project called ‘rediscovery of toilet’ in 2011. They decided to hold contest for collecting some ideas and also to invest in them. In this contest, Caltech in the U.S. which created ‘a solar penal toilet’ won the first prize.

3) How it operates
When a person excretes, excrement accumulates in a tank under the bathroom. As time passes, the tank is separated into sediment at the bottom and liquid excrement at the top. This liquid waste is recycled as water. Sediment can be separated and used as fertilizer. However, this operation method has prepared a method of electrolyzsis liquid excrement in a purification tank because the entire toilet can be contaminated.

1) By whom and when it was invented
: This idea won the highest award in the 2021 university student appropriate technology idea competition, and was designed by a student of 건국 University's Department of Integrated Human Resources. When I saw the idea that came out in the competition, it wasn't executed yet.

2) How it got started
: Kenya has very few toilets. Through this an essential living element call "toilet" has "rarity". Because of this, feces are easily left on the roadside and waterside and not only soil and water pollution, but also the health of the people are threatened.

3) How it operates
: Looking at the K-Wash Away project as an idea from the contest, it was not actually produced and no specific usage was disclosed. Only a little bit of how to filter out the garbage has been disclosed.
After pre-treating the main lung celluloros waste vinyl and waste mixed plastic in the dry and washing process, the pre-treated waste vinyl and the waste vinyl pre-treated are mixed in a certain ratio. (At this time, it includes the step of injecting to a predetermined temperature at which waste vinyl and lung cellulros do not get on and melt.) 3 The mixture in front of the car and the waste mixed plastic pretreated are mixed again at a certain ratio, and the recycled raw material is injected. It is said that the waste is stored and filtered out, which is then converted into fertilizer through a later process.

관련 자료 : https://blog.naver.com/dreamkonkuk/222236244274

1) Why do I think it's important
: As we have passed through this situation (coronavirus), I believe the way we think about cleanness has improved. It's also one of the reason why I think this toilet (especially nowadays) is important. Furthermore, people living in countries which don't even have clean restrooms are really exposed to many bad things. However, after I saw this toilet, I could imagine how they can live in better world with better restroom:)

2) My criticism of this technology
: One thing that I want to know is that the way they will distribute and install toilets in countries with poor restroom. Also, I wonder how they will choose the place to set their toilets. I hope many people can use it and not to be exposed to bad things anymore!!

In modern society, many countries are suffering from toilet problems. In any case, even if there are no poor countries, not only environmental pollution problems but also social and health problems are affected a lot. In such a society, I think it was a very desirable and groundbreaking idea for college students to come up with ideas to improve toilet problems through competitions and visualize them in detail. And I think the big advantage of this project is that there was no malicious intention to benefit from image consulting of large companies.

The biggest advantage of the dry cleaning method, designed to use water in Kenya without a country, is that it plans to be implemented nationwide as well as energy conservation. And I think it's also an advantage to be able to filter out all kinds of plastic so that there's no problem when making it into compost.
However, I think there is a disadvantage to this perfection. Of course, I don't think this idea is a problem. However, it is regrettable that even such a good idea is difficult to implement due to the nature of the competition. Of course, I know that it is difficult to actually produce due to budget problems due to the nature of the competition, but despite ideas that can have a great impact on society, it is limited to public exhibitions in this way. I think I was disappointed in that.
