The Romans came to Britain in three groups, landing at Richborough and Chichester. The Romans defeated Togodumnus and Caratacus, and some Britons surrendered. The Catuvellauni decided to surrender which led to the Romans taking control of the southeast part of Britain.

Local tribes had welcomed the Romans entering the area. The Romans had created a client kingdom in Sussex known as the Iceni.

The Romans consolidated their conquests in the south-east and the West parts of the Country. In Wales, the Silures didn't give a good time towards the Romans. Later on the Romans would establish a fort at Isca (Exeter).

Romans withdrew from Exeter to reinforce their forces in Wales. The Iceni were now firmly part of the empire. Fighting in Wales led to a high casualty rate on both sides.

The Romans secured the western coast up to the Clyde to contain the tribesmen there. The Romans had gone through many battles as many forts were dismantled.

AD 90-200

The Romans moved north again where they reclaimed British lowland Scotland and started the construction of the more basic Antonine Wall. The Damonii had also declared an independent kingdom. The defeat of the rival emperor, Albinus had occured. Then the single province was divided in two in the subsequent reorganisations.

AD 200-300

Emperor Severus decided to visit the provinces to lead a campaign in person against the Caledonii and Maeatae. Rome permanently abandoned Scotland after Severus' death. Britain was runned as an independent Roman state.

AD 300-382

Emperor Constantius campaigned against Highland tribes leading to the reorganization of Britannia into four provinces. Visits from Emperor Constans and attacks by Picts, contributed to the decline of Roman authority in Britain.

AD 382-409

Maximus's revolt led to his invasion of Gaul. During this he established client kingdoms in Wales and abandoned local forts. Other conflicts with the Picts, Saxons, and Irish Scotti persisted, and situations by Roman troops withdrawals led to Roman ties with the province ending.

AD 409-425

After Rome's departure, Britain saw central control weaken, leading to local leaders gaining power. Within forty years, Britain's cohesion collapsed due to revolt, plague, civil war, and invasion.
