Sadly, it was used to create an atomic bomb by the United States and which was used devastatingly on the city of Hiroshima in Japan. It made up the world that we live in.

E=mc^2 was used in that scientists knew if they could split an atom's mass using neutrons, they could split atoms and release the vast amount of energy inside that amount of mass. They used this information to create a nuclear bomb. While it was good that such a great scientific discovery was made, this bomb was used on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and killed many people.

Einstein's equation E=mc^2 was used for both bad and good purposes after Lise Meitner confirmed it because Leo Sillard went to Einstein talking about how an atomic bomb could be created by the Germans therefore they sent a letter to the President of the United States and then they produced an atomic bomb and dropped in on Hiroshima killing thousands of people and the world after was never the same. The neutron that was launched into the nucleus split the atom and created more neutrons and a chain reaction. For good purposes it is how our universe was created for the energy can condense back into matter and that was the Big Bang which is how everything went down. Although Einstein never lived to know that it was used for good.

Following the confirmation of E=MC^2 by Lise Meitner, two major revelations occurred; one of these was a tragedy but the other was an important insight into our universe. The former, aka the disaster, was the realization that nuclear fission could be used to make an atomic bomb. This realization created a nuclear arms race to see if Germany or America would develop the bomb first, and though the Nazis in Germany surrendered the bomb was still tragically used on Hiroshima and another on Nagasaki.
The latter realization was regarding the creation of the universe. The idea that mass could be converted to energy was also applicable in reverse, and that knowledge led to the discovery that, during the Big Bang, massive amounts of energy were released and converted to mass, which eventually created every physical object in the universe.
