         <description><![CDATA[<div>Is there a correlation with vitamin D deficiency and amount of melanin in skin? <br><br>A: The less melanin a person has, the higher the chances are of Vitamin D deficiency. People living in regions where UV rays are more harsh have more melanin to protect themselves from the rays. Add picture and sources. <br><br>A: Melanin is the skin pigment that gives people either dark skin or light skin.          <description><![CDATA[<div>How is vitamin D synthesized in the body? (use edpuzzle video)<br><br>A: Vitamin D is needed for bones to keep producing new bones and is the only vitamin the body produces on its own. The skin cells contain a molecule that converts to vitamin D when coming into contact with UV light, and vitamin D goes through the bloodstream to the lungs, liver and kidneys and becomes truly activated into calcitriol and circulated to all the bones of the body.&nbsp;<br><br>Source: edpuzzle</div>]]></description>
