Speaking- Students constantly learn how to communicate with different people every day so they can express their ideas and opinions.  In our classroom, students have many opportunities to speak about their writing and share their writing process with others. 
Listening- It is important that our students are good listeners so that they receive all of the feedback needed from their teachers or peers to be successful writers.  Having our students become good listeners can also give them the opportunity to learn something new or useful.
Writing- Students are constantly practicing their writing in many ways other than writing workshop.  Having writing workshop daily allows students to refine and grow in their writing as the weeks progress.
Viewing- Mini-lessons will allow the students to view what they have learned about the writing process so they can use this strategy throughout the writing workshop.

Drafting: Students will begin to list out sentences and develop them into a story structure as a starting piece using a graphing organizer or template. 
Revising: Students will revise by re-reading their piece (with a peer if they chose) and deciding if they want to remove or add certain information.  This will help the students get better fluency, voice, and create a stronger piece.
Editing: Students can proofread their piece independently or with a peer and make changes to conventions in their piece and make final edits from peer suggestions.
Publishing: Students will draw a picture to illustrate their story and color it.  Students can also use iPads or computers to print out pictures to illustrate their story if they chose.
