should graffiti be considered art? yes or no?

Yes! It's a work of art just like any other

Have you ever walked or drove by graffiti that was absolutely beautiful or just caught your eye, well… think about how hard the person must have worked to get it just right, every little mistake would be noticeable, imagine how proud they must've felt once they finally finished it, think about the artist's point of view. For a long time graffiti has been looked at as just vandalism but it's more when you look into it, it may all look bad but when you find that the most of it is impressive or even amazing!

People require a lot of skill to do what they do when making graffiti. The amount of practice and time to learn how to work with spray paint, blend colors, learn how to cover every little mistake, and add every little detail isn't easy and that's what makes it impressive the amount of time, detail, and effort dedicated to their art, sounds familiar doesn't it? All artists do this and the only difference between painting and graffiti is that one is done with a paintbrush and a canvas while the other is done with a bottle of spray paint and a wall. In LA in the ocean wide plaza dozens of artists came and tagged almost every floor of the 40 story skyrises with some amazing art, and with no surprise the people of LA found it as an “eyesore” some even say it does not match the theme of the city. Meanwhile the plaza is basically an art gallery now!

Graffiti is a form of expression and gives some the freedom of expressing themselves with art rather than words. Imagine not having a way to express yourself like if sports, music, or gaming is a way of expressing yourself, imagine you didn't have that, imagine people looking at the way you express yourself as a nuisance, that's how most graffiti artists may feel. It's a hobby to them but to others it's unimportant and annoying. Most arguments are “not all graffiti is good” “it's still illegal” But thats all they bat an eye too most graffiti is expressive and

people can express their opinions and emotions through it.

Graffiti has caused people to ask questions and call out corrupt systems. It has pushed people to ask questions like “Why were the buildings just left there?” and “Is anyone gonna do anything with it?” An anonymous artist even spoke with La times and talked about how Oceanwide was a great canvas because it speaks to rampant homelessness and corruption throughout the city. Again and again graffiti has been used to call out corrupt systems in both the United states and all over the world, since George Floyd died in 2020 nearly 3,000 murals have popped up on buildings around the world, honoring him. These murals have brought up conversations about systemic racism and police brutality in many countries around the world. Art pieces are showing up in countries like Germany, Syria, Kenya, and many more on that list.

Yes, authorities love to say that graffiti is destruction of property , but is it really? When you think destruction you think damage, breaking things etc etc, but graffiti rarely involves breaking down or damaging the canvas(aka the wall) they really only use it as an opportunity to display their art and skills, it spreads character through neighborhoods and individuality throughout the city. That concludes there's no physical damage, it's just paint.
