The people who settled in the New World had to change their way of life to survive in this new land. In the southern parts of America colonists relied on cash crops such as tobacco to grow their economy. When they first started their colonies they gave each person who settled there, land. Eventually there was a need for help as plantations grew larger. Indentured Servants were able to help but eventually slave labor became cheaper and easier than Indentured Servants. The New World would allow people, especially puritans to worship freely without interference from the King. One group of Puritans who received a grant of land in New England from Charles I. This allowed them to create the Massachusetts Bay Company. The colonists all over the Americas had to learn how to deal with the Native tribes. The Europeans wanted to expand their dominance and gain wealth, unfortunately this most often came at the cost of taking Native lands. The Natives were not willing to hand their land over so this caused tensions between the two groups of people. In places like the Caribbean the Europeans came in to contact with people from other European countries.
