Healthcare is one of the most important out of all. It is a provision of medical care to individuals or a community. Hospitals, doctors and medicines must be accessible, available and of good quality for everyone whenever and wherever they are needed. Health care must be affordable and comprehensive for everyone, and physically accessible where and when needed. When people have access to health care, they live healthier lives  allowing them to contribute more to the economy. Everyone must have access to equal comprehensive health care. Access to health care must be universal and equitably guaranteed for everyone.

Education is extremely necessary for each and every individual to gain knowledge and to have a better livelihood. Education enhances employment opportunities and improves the social and economic strata of life. Everyone should have equal right to education irrespective of their economic status, gender disparity, regional and racial differences. Equality in education must be ensured for everyone regardless of their abilities, their background or their lifestyle. Quoting America’s 36^th President, Lyndon B. Johnson, "Education is the key to opportunity in our society and the equality of educational opportunity must be the birthright of every citizen".

Healthcare is one of the most important indicators that reflect the power of any country and the respect of human rights. Healthcare does not only involve treating ailments and dealing with accidents and emergencies but it refers to the complete physical and mental well-being of an individual. Every person should have the right to adequate, affordable and accessible healthcare facilities. The complete chain of healthcare, right from diagnosis to treatment should be made available to all irrespective of their social or economic background. It is truly said, “A heathy nation is a wealthy nation”.

Public education is supposed to serve the public. What is known about the public is that there are a variety of experiences, cultures, and beliefs represented, all of which contribute to a unique and vibrant community. Similarly, different members in a community have different needs and resources (financial, emotional, and physical, to name a few). Schools are tasked with educating all members of the public regardless of income, level of ability, native language, or prior education. For this reason, equity is critically important to public education.  

 

In school, equality is often associated with access and outcomes. Equality asserts that every student should have the same access to a high quality education regardless of where they come from. It also requires that all students be held to the same standards and objectives regardless of their circumstances, abilities, or experiences.

 

Equity recognizes that different students need different resources to achieve the same goals as their peers. It takes into consideration the fact that a student with a disability requires different physical supports at school than a peer who does not have a disability. Similarly, a bilingual student who speaks a native language other than English needs different language supports than a monolingual English speaker. None of the children are better or worse than another, they just have different needs. Every child brings to school a unique set of needs, talents, and resources that prompt teachers to respond in different ways to each individual student. 

Equality and diversity are essential components of health and social care. Good equality and diversity practices make sure that the services provided to people are fair and accessible to everyone.

They ensure that people are treated as equals, that people get the dignity and respect they deserve and that their differences are celebrated. Equality and diversity shouldn’t be seen as bonus benefits to your health or social care setting but more as integral constituents.

Health equity means giving patients the care they need when they need it. Or as the Institute of Medicine (IOM) report put it, health equity means “providing care that does not vary in quality because of personal characteristics such as gender, ethnicity, geographic location, and socioeconomic status.”

Thus, with the definitions of Equality and Equity in the fields of education and healthcare, we can understand the importance of them. If both the above mentioned services are provided in the the 2 fields, our country might develop by 10 folds. We as citizens of India should try to implement them for the development of our country.
