This video claims to be showing the different signals and evidence for alien life in the past, however plenty of red flags and reasons for belief crop up in it. A blatant red flag implied throughout the video is suppression by authorities, and he states a few times that the government may be hiding evidence that there is extraterrestrial life. There are also hints of the ancient wisdom red flag when he mentions in early portraits that there are UFOs, and proof by verbosity as he is constantly giving out what seems like a bunch of information, when a lot of it can easily be debunked. Speculation arose from groups and organizations after public release of the image that it was a sign of extraterrestrial life or an ancient martian civilization. The image is simply a poor quality/angle of a crater in a region known as Cydonia. The image is an example of an optical phenomena known as Pareidolia, which is to see faces in things that don't necessarily have a face. The speculation behind the picture could fall under both the Patternicity reason for belief, and the Unexplained reason for belief. The article takes a while to get into the actual headline of the story, but they do show quite a lot of promise when going through the steps needed to find extraterrestrial life. On the other hand, this could be classified as proof by verbosity because they put large walls of text together all at once with a lot of information, which could fool readers into thinking there's a big discovery. In fact, a lot of what the article states has been well known, and it mostly goes on about ways we search for alien life. The video does a good job of trying to stay unbiased to popular opinions of scientists, and talks about reasons as to why we wouldn't be seeing alien life, for example a great filter that could be ahead of us or behind us in time. This video is a good example of an explanation that tries to only use data we have available to us now, and builds an argument off of that data. However, there is an issue with speculation in the video, where they make some assumptions about what it would be like if we found life outside our planet. The video falls under the Unexplained reason for belief, as it makes multiple mentions of things that are barely theory at this point. The image depicts Virgin Mary in the foreground with a large flying UFO-like object flying in the background, and the image has become quite famous for groups believing that we have been visited by extraterrestrial life and deemed as evidence that we have been visited by aliens in the past. This painting was made in the 15th century, so we would be basing the belief off of the subject of a single painting in that time period. While there are other instances of floating objects in other ancient paintings, this would still be considered an ancient wisdom red flag. The fact that any evidence could be based on data from a painting, let alone in the 15th century, is just ridiculous. There is also a severe bout of confirmation bias here, where people are looking for evidence for alien life, and using an old painting as proof that they had seen UFOs back in that time. However the evidence presented here is anecdotal and circumstantial at best, as eyewitness reports and claims of hidden government files are unreliable as evidence. This would fall under the suppression by authorities red flag from the government files that are hidden, and confirmation bias from the way they achieved the evidence presented. The video does a decent job at explaining the evidence, and how there is some data that may prove the existence of microbial life underneath the surface of the ice caps, since we have found microbial life in similar conditions here on Earth. However the video tends to stray away from the question of aliens when going into the history of Mars, and how some data was skewed and attempted to be falsified by the public, and he used a click-bait image in the thumbnail to make people believe there was a humanoid creature on the surface, which contributes to the red herring red flag. The image gained popularity after groups looking for alien life assumed it was some sort of UFO moving through the sky. The actual explanation is that these lights are caused by some elements in the hills reacting with the air creating bright lights at night. However some still believe that it is a sign that we have been visited by otherworldly beings. The reason for belief these people take from is Simplicity, because the explanation from a lot of the speculation surrounding the image is very basic and a quicker route to take than the actual reasoning. The main subject of the article, Travis Walton, disappeared in 1975, and claims that multiple lie detector tests prove that his story of being abducted by aliens is true. His evidence implies that a lie detector test is infallible, which is where the problem lies in the argument. Polygraph tests have not been accurate since their creation, and they are not used by the justice system anymore due to their unreliability. Another issue is that a polygraph test wont matter if he truly believes that is what happened to him, which he most likely does, but it could be plenty of other explanations. This article involves the suppression by authorities red flag; Travis states multiple times that nobody believe him and they were trying to keep his story quiet and get him to take psychiatric tests.
