When will we get these?

All four lecturers have now generated additional sample essay questions for the exam. You can find them in the Assessment folder (Information about Assessment --> Exam Information). These questions closely reflect the types you can expect in the exam. They are designed to help you revise and check your understanding of the core topics. You should be able to answer each of the questions using the content covered in the lectures, so please refer to the lecture slides and essential readings as part of your preparation.

For those of us on the block learning format, the intensity of this module is particularly problematic. We have invested significant time in attending classes, engaging in self-directed study, and working hard across all components of the course. Despite our efforts, the structure and delivery of this module risk undermining our overall academic performance. Many students feel that their hard work across the year may be compromised by a module that lacks balance and adequate support.

The time allocated for revision is notably insufficient, with only a few multiple-choice questions provided at the end of each domain. Considering the breadth and complexity of the content, the expectation to produce four essay responses in the final exam seems disproportionate. Moreover, even the lectures themselves could not comprehensively cover the content in the slides due to time constraints. While the university points to the availability of learning materials for independent study, this does not fully mitigate the issue when the scale of the material is so extensive.

There is also a lack of clarity and consistency in explanation in classes throughout the module, leaving many students feeling overwhelmed and unsupported. An additional concern is the scheduling of assessments: we are expected to submit a presentation on the 6th of June, immediately following the final exam on the 5th of June. Having two major assessments on consecutive days leaves no room for adequate preparation or recovery, and it reflects poorly on the planning and consideration given to student wellbeing and success.

This experience has led many students to feel that their academic outcomes are being compromised because of this two modules in one not by a lack of effort, but by a system that fails to provide the necessary structure and support. DMU should review the design and delivery of this module in order to ensure it better supports student learning, wellbeing, and achievement in the future.
