Henry Morton Stanley was a traveler, journalist, and accountable for the deaths of millions of Congo people. He is accused of the death of millions of people due to his greed for power, carelessness for deaths and, treaty negotiations. Born in 1841 he lived a normal life. Then in 1884 at the Berlin conference Stanley made efforts that greatly paved the way for the creation of the Congo Free State, privately owned by Leopold.

Stanley was first ordered by King Leopold to travel to the Congo and negotiate treaties with them that allowed him and Leopold to take over and control the Congo. A few years later Stanley was responsible for gaining power in the free state and taking it over as his own with Leopold. My reason why it was not Leopold was because he never entered foot in Congo, furthermore Stanley was British not Belgian. Which Leopold was. Finally we see that Stanley could have turned down the offer to negotiate treaties but decided anyways to take over the Congo.

This evidence shows why Henry Morton Stanley is responsible because he only wanted people to make note that he was the best and most glorious. Additionally I think that the entries were about how he was going to get all the rubber and kill all the people there so he could be glorious and famous. This shows why it was not Leopold. For example Leopold already had some fame. He didn't need to be responsible for the millions of deaths. But Stanley wanted fame and power.

This is an image of where Henry M. Stanley explored the Congo. His primary focus was near the river basin. He was ordered to do this by King Leopold to establish his ownership of the Congo free state.

This shows why he is responsible for the death of millions because he knew that Leopold was going to pay him for the treaties he negotiated. He also knew that the Congo could not understand want he was saying. This helped him even more because if they didn't understand what Stanley was saying, so he knew that it would be an easy job.

This finally shows why Henry M Stanley is responsible for the death of millions because he was fine with people dying and getting killed and sick. It was emotionless for him. This would be a prime reason for why he was responsible because every time somebody died he just didn't care.
