Goat, beef, lamb and sometimes chicken is fried in ghee (clarified butter) or grilled. This is spiced with turmeric, coriander, cumin and curry and is eaten with basmati rice. They eat this for lunch, dinner and sometimes breakfast.

Religion is a major influence on the lives of Somalis. They are Sunni Muslims of the Shafi'ite rite, with great interest in Sufi spiritualism, characterized by charting, whirling, chewing qat, and falling into a trance as a way of communicating with Allah (their God).
The Somalia people shared a common language called Somali but they also speak Arabic for religious purposes. the most recognized symbol is the camel, because it provides transportation, milk, meat, income and status.

The international community and the Somali federal government have both raised a red flag over the drought and pre-famine situation that has affected half of the country’s population. The drought has resulted in food insecurity, which has led to large scale malnutrition that has directly affected the health of the population. In this drought, which is geographically the most stretched, relative to previous droughts, the health sector is confronted by multiple challenges. Malnutrition and pre-famine situations are two killers in their own right and two major underlying causes of ill-health and disease.

Method: a sample of 1,268 adolescents (mean age= 14.6) who completed surveys as part of the EAT 2010 (Eating and Activity in Teens) study was included in analyses. Gender-stratified linear and logistic regressions, controlling for body mass index and demographic characteristics, were conducted to estimate mean weekly hours of self-reported MVPA and mean weekly hours and prevalence of engagement in each of 26 physical activities assessed by ethnic/racial group.

Result: Somali girls had lower mean MVPA hours than their peers; however, no differences were found for Somali boys. Involvement in most activities was similar for Somali and other groups, but some differences were observed. Somali youth were more likely to play soccer than their same-sex other black peers. Somali girls also engaged in more hours per week of soccer than their black or white peers.
