One key point is that one of the types is when you just want things to be perfect all the time which can cause you to feel really disappointed in yourself when you mess up with just one little thing. Another key point is that there are people who sometimes can get things done very fast and can be good at it but once they have a hard time with just one thing they bring themselves down and then feel disappointed. Lastly another key point is feeling that you can have many roles such as a friend, student, or parent that you believe you can do a whole lot of things but once you can't do something in a role, you feel like you should be able to do a lot more. I can connect to the first one because I always want things to be good but sometimes that doesn't happen like my grades or tests.

One place is your parental and childhood environment. if your parents pressured you to do well in school, compared you to your siblings, were controlling or overprotective, etc that could be a factor in having "Imposter Syndrome".

Imposter syndrome causes the feeling of self-doubt and/or a constant feeling of not liking yourself or struggling to accept yourself for who you truly are despite what accomplishments, achievements, or struggles you have overcome. Imposter feelings is the continuous conflict between how you view yourself as to how others actually view you. Even if others praise you for who you are, you will usually shrug off your achievements with random excuses as to why you reach your goal with something like "it was just luck". This usually leads to you pressuring yourself to set your standards higher overtime. This pressure can cause a huge toll on you mental or emotional-well being and even your performance in bad ways. You eventually push yourself in ways that will "keep others from realizing your 'failures' " or "ease the feeling of guilt over 'tricking' people", etc. I have felt imposter syndrome once when I was in middle school because I was failing in my math class and I felt like I had become horrible at math but then when I got to highschool and started doing good in math I had regained my confidence again.

Imposter syndrome comes from various places like from having strict parents. Not everyone one has strict parents that expect you to be at a high level and compare you to others. From personal experience i can say that many first generation students go through these things. Being held at a high expectation can lead to a feeling of being less than. Or the feeling of not being good enough. The feeling of not being good enough can be contributed by criticism from the ones close to you. The feeling of being less than is contributed by the fact that you aren't a specific gender or a certain color that deteriorates a persons self-esteem.

the article talks about what the title says about imposter syndrome and the history behind it how it was at one point related with women but then it was discovered also in men and the basic meaning is that its the feeling that you have lead people to believe that you are not who you are and that you have lied to people. and it is interesting because it has been shown that people of color are mostly to be damaged by this. and I would say my connection is with myself because of how I sometimes think i'm not who I am because I can't remember something quick and how that messes me up.

The way this article relates to myself and Avid is that sometimes people who are in Avid, they can sometimes tend to have this sort of self doubt about meeting the requirements to stay ahead of everything. Some students can struggle in their classes and it causes this sense of doubt in those students minds which will cause them to give up on certain classes that they are failing leading them to make up those credits. An example of this is when I was failing in APUSH early into the semester and I wanted to give up but my friends and teachers gave me the motivation to keep going. This motivation lead me to go to tutoring for any classes I was struggling in so that I could get the help I needed. I remember I mainly went to tutoring mostly for APUSH to make up many tests and then on some occasions I also went to get help for my English finals or computer science.

Even though imposter gets bunched into one category of just not trying it comes in different ways. Now there is many successful people in the world doesn't mean that they aren't perfectionists. Having imposter syndrome doesn't necessarily mean that you randomly picked it when you're older. Imposter syndrome happens to people depending on how they were raised, or how they feel about certain things happening in their lives. There's different ways to acknowledge imposter syndrome. In that same way there's ways on how to resolve the imposter syndrome. A person doesn't have to pretend that everything it fine they need to acknowledge their feelings. When a person acknowledges their own feelings they know how to get help to not feel that way anymore.

So after reading everything and after talking it out with Raymond I will say that everything is the same with all the articles and it makes you know that people get imposter syndrome due to the way you are feeling and in the place in you are in. people with imposter syndrome seem to have the idea that they are not who they think they are and that they have been putting on an act due to an event or events that are happening. for one example would be going to college and not know much that can make you feel like that and also other stuff like starting a job. in conclusion imposter syndrome is just something that affects many sometimes young people which makes you go under the impression you are not who you are.

That you are faking everything and that at any second others could see the sham you are. Imposter Syndrome can affect anyone no matter their education, and accomplishments. Though there is a difference between others doubting your abilities and making you feel unwelcomed to you doubting your abilities and feeling like you don't belong. I think that I can relate to this as sometimes I feel that I am not worth the praise I get for having straight As. I feel that I am just getting by and don't really work hard enough for the praise I receive.

According to this article and an imposter syndrome researcher, there are five types of people that suffer from imposter syndrome. The five types are the perfectionist, the natural genius, the rugged individualist (soloist), the expert, and the superhero. The first type is the perfectionist might suffer from imposter syndrome as their standards of perfection can not be met. When they don't meet their standards and make small mistakes it leads them to pull themselves apart and doubt themselves. The second type is the natural genius who understands new things and believes that struggling with anything new makes them feel like a fraud. The third type is the rugged individualist who believes that they can handle everything on their own and if they need help they are good enough leading to self-doubt. The fourth type is the expert who feels that they need to know everything and if they don't then they are a fraud. The final type and fifth type is the superhero who believes that they should have the ability to succeed in any part they play. If they can't or struggle it leads them to doubt themselves. These five types all have different or similar beliefs or standards that lead them to doubt themselves or feel like a fraud to basically suffering from imposter syndrome. I can connect to this in that I feel like a perfectionist sometimes as I want things to be perfect and if I know that it isn't going to end with perfect results I don't try at all or do very last minute so I can blame my messy work on that.

There are many different reasons and factors that can lead to someone feeling like a fraud and suffering from imposter syndrome. Some of these different factors can be parenting & childhood environment, personality traits, new responsibilities, existing mental health symptoms, and bias. Childhood can develop feelings of doubt and imposter feelings as parents can be controlling, pressuring, and criticizing. It can lead to someone being one of the five types that suffer from imposter syndrome as when they kids they were praised as a natural genius gaining new skills easily. But as they get older they might struggle with learning new math skills. Personality traits can be a factor that is linked to self-doubt as someone can be a perfectionist or have perfectionistic tendencies. Existing mental health symptoms may have people already experience self-doubt and worry about the perception of others. New responsibilities might make you feel like a fraud as it can make you worry that you won't measure up to the new responsibilities or that you might be getting by on a whim as you try to adjust and formalize yourself with these new responsibilities. Then the role of bias which is gender bias and racism which can make others judge others based on harmful stereotypes which can lead to reinforcing the feeling of being unwelcomed and not belonging. All these factors can lead to self-doubt and feelings of imposter syndrome. I can relate to the factor of parenting and childhood being a part of how I feel now about my accomplishments as I was praised a lot as a kid and have overprotective parents which lead to me expecting more of myself and not approaching challenges I don't think I can conquer which leads to self-doubt.

This final part of the article is about how to resolve imposter feelings. There are many ways to resolve imposter feelings and some of these ways are acknowledging your feelings, building connections, challenging your doubts, and avoiding comparing yourself to others. Acknowledging your feelings by opening up to others can help with realizing you are not alone and finding a solution with outside help that can help you see the situation in a different way. Building connections have similar benefit but also in that it can "encourage your efforts" and "validate your strengths." While challenging your doubts can make you recognize that there is evidence countering what you feel/believe. Avoiding comparing yourself to others can let you see your own worth, highlight your abilities and see that you might not be good at something but can be very good at something else. Basically, the way to resolve imposter feelings is to see that perfection is not a requirement and is impossible but with help and doing things to battle self-doubt you can get a different view and find ways to have a realistic view. In my day-to-day life, I try to avoid comparing myself to others as I know that at the end that will make me feel bad. I talk to others and acknowledge what makes me unique.
