Step 2: Develop the activity

1. Learning Objective

ü  Skill/Topic: Writing (Focus on simple sentence construction and questions).

ü  Objective: “Students will be able to write short sentences and questions using the verb ‘to be’ and descriptive adjectives”.

2. Activity Structure.

a. Introduction

·       Begin by explaining the basic structure of sentences and questions with the verb 'to be' (e.g., “He is tall”, “Is she happy?”).

·       Introduce the concept of descriptive adjectives and provide some examples (e.g., happy, tall, red, exciting).

b. Instructions

·       Access the Grammarly platform (or install the extension on your browser).

·       Open a new document or use Grammarly directly in a writing platform (e.g., Google Docs).

·       Write 5 sentences and 5 questions using the verb “to be” and at least one descriptive adjective in each.

·       Pay attention to the Grammarly suggestions and revise your sentences accordingly.

c. Practice

1.       Example sentences for guidance:

·       Sentences: “She is beautiful.” “The car is red.”

·       Questions: “Are you tired?” “Are you excited about the trip?”

2.       Student task: write your own examples and edit them according to Grammarly's comments.

Instructions:

1. Open ChatGPT and type or use the microphone to ask:  

   "What did you do last weekend?"  

2. Answer the AI’s questions using the simple past and time expressions.  

3. Ask ChatGPT for suggestions to improve your answers.  

4. Practice having a conversation with the assistant about past events.

1. What did you do last weekend?  

2. Can you tell me about a memorable trip you went on?  

3. Did you try any new food recently? What was it like?  

4. When was the last time you went to a party or gathering? How was it?  

5. What was your favorite subject in school, and why?

“Last weekend, I went to the cinema with my family. We ate popcorn, and then we had pizza for dinner at the mall.”  

Role Play

Students create 5 questions to ask ChatGPT. Example:  

1. What did you do last weekend?  

2. Did you travel during your last holiday?  

Feedback:

- Automatic: ChatGPT corrects and suggests ways to improve grammar and vocabulary.  

- Instructor: Students can share the chat or record their conversation with ChatGPT and send it to the teacher for additional feedback.

1. Answer five of ChatGPT’s questions about past events.  

2. Write a short paragraph about a funny anecdote. Share it with ChatGPT and ask for grammar and simple past corrections.  

3. Ask the assistant about its favorite event in the past and simulate a conversation, asking more questions about its story.  

Optional Materials:

- Show pictures of a special event and describe them.  

- Record short audio clips for some exercises and get feedback on pronunciation.
