Holden in this scenerio represents the duck, he constantly wonders about them and sympathizes towards them becuase similar to them, Holden faces many everyday struggles. No, it didn’t really seem like Holden was trying to make conversation with the cab driver bc he seemed really mad when Holden asked about the ducks and not the fish.
