Unlawful Organizations Act 1960

The Unlawful Organizations Act 1960 allowed the apartheid government of South Africa to declare unlawful any organizations deemed to threaten public order or the safety of the public. This legislation was enacted within a few weeks of 1960's Sharpeville Massacre. This act enabled the banning of the African National Congress and the Pan National Congress.

Promotion of Bantu Self-Government Act, 1959

The Act was designed to further the policy of the Apartheid, which established separate self-governing homelands (Bantustans), for different ethic groups. The Act aimed to further segregate black South Africans by allocating specific areas for their South African citizenship. This enforced racial segregation and discrimination.

Immigrants Regulation Amendment Act. 1953

This act prevented people who were born outside of South Africa from immigrating to SA even if they had a South African partner that they were married to. Children who were born before a certain date to a couple like above were also not permitted to enter.

Separate Representation of Voters Amendment Act 1956

Created a Union Council with 27 members (representatives) who would represent the voice of coloured people and their education, political, social and economic interests. 15 of the 27 members were selected by the government while the remaining 12 would be elected by coloured people. White people were also highly encouraged and selected to represent coloured people in this Union Council.

Prevention of Illegal Squatting Act (1951)

Empowered the Minister of Native Affairs to move Africans off public or privately owned land and authorising local authorities to establish resettlement camps where squatters could be concentrated (homelands).

Electoral Laws Amendment Act (1952)

This act changed the boundary of electoral constituencies based on the total number of registered White voters in the country, instead of the Whites over the age of 21 (1909 law); the general registration of voters throughout South West Africa and the Union; supplementary registrations of two- to three-year intervals; the convening of delimitation commissions every 10 years instead of 5 and It reduced the shortened the number of days between nomination day and election day.
