  • No pushing, shoving, horseplay in the lab
  • Follow all written and verbal instructions
  • No eating or drinking in the lab
  • Do not touch anything in the lab until given instructions to do so 
  • Use MSDS’s 
  • Use safety equipment properly (showers, eyewash, blanket, etc) 
  • Never work in the lab alone or unsupervised 
  • Do not disturb other lab groups
  • Consult your doctor about medical conditions (ex. Contacts, allergies, pregnancy, asthma) before participating in labs
  • Wear all PPE

  • Tie back long hair
  • Wear proper clothing (closed-toed shoes, non-baggy clothing, etc.)
  • Wash hands before you leave with soap and water
  • Report accidents immediately
  • Clean up lab station completely before leaving
  • Waft odors
  • Hot beakers look just like cold beakers. Be careful! 
  • Never taste chemicals
  • Avoid using cracked or broken glassware
  • Keep reaction vessels away from your face
  • Never mouth pipette! Use a pipet pump or bulb

    This is known as a measuring or mixing cylinder which is used to mix and measure liquids.

    Test Tube Tongs
    These are used for carrying or heating test tubes.

    Hot Pads
    A heating element that is contained in a flexible pad.

    Erlenmeyer flask
    This is used to contain liquids for mixing, heating, cooling, incubation, filtration, storage, and other liquid-handling processes.

    Glass Stir Rod
    This is used to stir and mix solutions, but can also be used for scratching glass to start the crystallization process.

    Scoopula
    This is used to transport different elements in chemistry to either heat, stir, or weigh on a weighing paper.

    Test Tube
    This is to hold chemicals/ liquids during experiments and is a very important piece to any chemistry class.

    Rubber Stoppers
    This is used to keep the liquids in the lab's glassware in and not allow it to leak or spill out of the container.

    Flint Striker
    This is a type of lighter that uses spark to create a flame.

    Table Top Balance 
    This is made for weighing all kinds of different things, in and outside the lab. These are used for weighing different elements but are also used for weighing all types of things including food.

    This is used for cleaning test tubes and glassware.

    Hot Plate with Magnetic Stirs
    This is a standard hot plate with a magnetic mixer to keep the liquid continuously stirring
    Beaker

    Inoculating Loop
    This is used to pick up or transfer a small sample of a substance.

    Microcentrifuge tube
    This is used for preparing, mixing, centrifuging, transporting and storing solid and liquid samples and reagents.

    Autoclave
    These operate at a high temperature and at a high pressure to kill small organisms and spores.

    Centrifuge
    This is used to separate fluids using its constant speed

    Vortex
    This causes liquids to go in a circular motion to mix or stir them.

    Thermal Cycler
    It's used to amplify DNA using a polymerase chain reaction

    Gel Electrophoresis Chamber
    This is used to analyze DNA fragments.

    Multichannel Pipet
    To transport a measured amount of liquid.

    Incubator
    This is used to grow and maintain microbiological organisms and bacterial growth.

    Water bath
    This is used to incubate samples over a long period of time.

    Parafilm
    This is used to cover the petri dishes to promote bacterial growth of the cultures on the dish.

    Sharps Disposal
    This is used to get rid of and safely contain any dangerous material after its use.
