(In the top center of the image) You can see Jews being labelled as a poisonous mushroom because Jews were polluting the German purity. The whole purpose of these books were for young German children to hate Jews.
- Colin Angelitud

This is a photo of a film projector in the German Historical Museum that was owned by the Rose family, who were forced to give up their film business in 1937 for what were listed as "racial reasons." At the Museum, we learned about many similar instances where Jews contributed significantly to the German culture, creating a paradox for many Germans, who benefitted from the art or business through which a Jewish member of society was successful, yet still rejected any Jewish accomplishments from being a part of the emerging German nationalistic identity. This divide became especially apparent during the period of Romanticism, when the people of the German speaking provinces began to recognize a shared identity and moved toward unification. The nationalist movement rejected Jewish contributions despite the fact that most Jews were in favor of assimilation, leading to the eventual rejection of Jewish art and business under Hitler, and many families such as the Roses had to relinquish their visible positions in society.

Today one of the first things we talked about was a statue known as Germania. Germania represents Germany and the different phases it has gone through. This statue represents pureness and beauty, but as we walked through the museum we saw her represent times of anger and disaster.

What I found really interesting about this photo was when we were saying how this location use to be a synagogue. It's fascinating how now a park is a memorial for the destroyed synagogue. Learning about Kristallnacht in class makes you wonder if this is one of the many synagogues that had been destroyed during the Holocaust. In my head I can't come across the idea of children playing on the remains of a synagogue.

Stereotypes -- Walking through the museum of the history of Germany's rise and fall, this one particular piece caught my attention. This book depicted in the photograph is a collection of illustrations of Jewish stereotypes. The characters within the photographs include distinct facial features, such as a fairly large nose and ears, as well as a defined overall look. In the first picture from the right, it seems as if it depicts that those particular people with those characteristics are an outlet to death for all others.

This Hitler poster centers around a very powerful and threatening image of him, produced to gain and keep German support of him as an extremely powerful leader. The artistic and powerful aspects of this propaganda poster embody the warped successes of strong advertisements of Hitler and his unique presence with the German people.
