•               For the Guest:

o               "I'm afraid there's a problem with my room."

o               "I'd like to make a complaint."

o               "The air-conditioning isn't working."

o               "The Wi-Fi signal is very weak."

o               "I'm not satisfied with..."

o               "Could you possibly move me to another room?"

•               For the Hotel Staff:

o               "I'm very sorry to hear that."

o               "Let me see what I can do."

o               "Unfortunately, we are fully booked at the moment."

o               "I can offer you a voucher for the hotel restaurant."

o               "We can send our maintenance staff to fix it immediately."

•  Set up the Role-Play (10 mins):

•               Divide the class into pairs: Student A and Student B.

•               Student A is the tourist. Student B is the hotel receptionist.

•               Give them their role cards. Allow 2 minutes to read and prepare.

•               Student A (Tourist): Your card says: You are staying in Room 308. You have two problems: 1) The shower only has cold water. 2) The people in the next room (307) are having a very loud party. You want the hotel to fix these problems. Your ideal solution is to move to a quiet room with a working shower.

•               Student B (Receptionist): Your card says: It is a very busy night and the hotel is completely full, so you cannot move the guest to a new room tonight. The hotel's maintenance person has gone home. You can offer the guest: 1) A 20% discount on their stay. 2) Vouchers for a free breakfast tomorrow. Your goal is to keep the guest happy.

Task 2:

•  Introduce the Scenario (5 mins):

•               Set the scene: "Imagine... your boat has sunk! You've managed to swim to a small, deserted island. Before the boat sank, you had time to grab a bag. There are 12 items in the bag, but it's too heavy. You must choose ONLY 5 items to keep to help you survive.

•               Introduce the second conditional structure for giving reasons: "If we chose [item], we could [result]." For example, "If we chose the knife, we could cut wood to build a shelter."

•  Group Discussion (10-15 mins):

•               Put students into small groups of 2.

•               Show them the list of 12 items:

o               A large box of waterproof matches

o               A 20-litre bottle of fresh water

o               A first-aid kit

o               A large, sharp knife

o               20 metres of strong rope

o               A sleeping bag

o               A fishing net

o               A magnifying glass

o               A smartphone (10% battery, no signal)

o               A large bar of chocolate

o               A book titled "How to Survive in the Wild"

o               A flare gun with one flare

•               Instruct the groups to discuss the pros and cons of each item and agree on the 5 most useful ones. They must be able to explain why they chose each one.

•               Circulate and monitor the discussions. Encourage them to use phrases like: "I think we should...", "What about the...?", "That's a good point, but...", "I agree/disagree because..."
