An 18-year-old senior at a small private high school, Sasha wore a T-shirt, a black fleece jacket, a gray newsboy cap and a gauzy white skirt. For much of the long bus ride through Oakland, Calif., Sasha — who identifies as agender, neither male nor female. Sasha’s legs were left charred and peeling. However, this can also be symbolism, as the skirt was a physical representation of Sasha’s identity, and the fire is the physical, as well as metaphorical representation of homophobia, transphobia, and overall hate that the LGBTQ+ community receives. This hate towards queer people is still relevant even today, as there are many people that are homophobic. The simple design of my piece was purposeful, as it represents the simple-minded hate towards a certain group of people for no other reason other then not understanding them.
