My favorite part of the story is when the author says, "You won't set your alarm that night. You'll sink into bed, excited by the thought of seeping in." I can relate to that quote because I've had long days of both school and sports, so just the thought of thinking that you're going to home and rest. One question that I have for this story is, is it possible that the author was assuming that his dad would say no based on his expressions?

My favorite part of the story is when he said " Your brain will try to sleep talk you to sleep" I can relate because each day for me is a long lazy day. Then when you take a nap after school it feels like heaven but once your nap is over your brain really tells me that. He goes threw all these events Like waking up early trying to fight these sleeping demons. I relate to this because I have to wake up early and get ready for school it sucks. Players don't want him on there team for basketball but proves them why they should have him on there team for basketball. This character is responsible and hard working. In the beginning of the story the narrator was not respected he wasn't in any pick up's nor did anyone even talk to him, but once Dante started to pick on him and they got the one on one match started. After that the narrator had gained the respect he deserved. The story doesn't sound like any ordinary first person story. I say this because when he would express his feelings he would say "No words from your brain. No thought" (16,Pena). It makes it seem like we are thinking this and gives a different perspective and different narrative on the story and how the narrator is feeling.

This boy expresses his love and passion of basketball throughout the story and explains how basketball is basically an escape of reality for him. My favorite part of the story is when the boy was made fun of by other people but didn't stop his love for basketball and continued doing what he loves most. I can relate to this part of the story because when I was younger I was also made fun of for being bad at basketball, but I did not let it get to my head, so I practiced and practiced playing basketball. One question I have about the story is that was this story about the author's life?

Personally speaking, I believe that the main idea of the story is identity because it was written in first person, so the main character talks about himself a lot and what he faces during his life. He basically talks about his passion for basketball the whole time and the obstacles he had to face during the summer.
My favorite part of the story is when Dante says " After you get smoked, you walk out them doors and never come back, you hear"."They're letting you play. And if you mess up, it's over". I liked this part of the story because the main character was finally brave enough to stand up against one of the best players and play him. Even though he might have been afraid he still gave it a shot which is better then completely backing out and humiliating himself. I can relate to this part of the story because I have been challenged to do certain things and I went for it even though I might have been under lots of pressure and very nervous. One question I have about the story is, why we're the people on the court so judge mental, why didn't they just give the narrator a chance to play or see his potential instead of benching him for so long?

The story is about a boy who plays basketball and is very good player for his age but pushes himself to be better and to do better. My favorite part of the story is "It will take a little more than an hour for you to arrive at the large, dilapidated building with two locked green doors. Butterflies will dance inside your chest. That first time and every time following. Even years from now. And that's how it should be. Because you can sense it... Here is where you will learn the world".
I can relate to this part because the first day I joined high school I was nervous, but mostly excited because I know that this is the place where I will learn what paths and opportunities to take and how to provide for myself in the future.
One question I have about the story is why did the officer suspect the boy?.

"When reality finally settles in, the lazy part of your brain will try and sweet-talk you back to sleep: Maybe we could, you know, skip the Muni trip today . . . go ball at the park instead. . . . there's always tomorrow. Reach into your own skull and smack this part of your brain upside the head. If you let it, this part of your brain will hold you back from every dream you will ever have. Trust me."
This reveals that the character is relying himself to ignore the time of wanting to be lazy instead he try's to remember what it could do to him and the future he is trying to create for himself.

During this story the charter wanted to take his talent to the next level at only 13. The old gym he used to play basketball at was to easy for him so there was a place in San Diego that has better players and a better gym and he wanted to play there. People were mean to him and he didn't even play for 2 whole weeks and the 3rd week he played a little against some homeless men that wanted to play but when the good people asked him to play he didn't back down and he balled out. He did so good that he got a 30 year old 6'7 man so mad that he kept on wanting to play him and kept on losing and the theme for this story is that if you are 13 or 67 if you put your mind to it you can do anything that you want to do. i can also relate to this story because when i played pop Warner witch is little league for football it was to easy like the kids first gym and then when i got to high school i didn't get to play right away i had to earn my playing time and once i got my shot i didn't back down and now i play in every game.
