The Happy Prince is not only the portrayal of the worst years of Oscar Wilde´s life. The film is a critique of the homophobia that Wilde and his homosexual contemporaries suffered. After being in jail, Wilde try to start a new life in France separated from his wife and sons. The flashbacks, which manage to show the anguish of someone who has lost everything, are able to bewilder you and make you think it is disjointed. At the beginning, the confusion makes the film gripping but it is too long and slow-moving, therefore finally it can become boring and disappointing.
