         <title>Stages of Writing Process: </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Stage 1 Picture Writer:</strong> Communicates by drawing a picture or random mark. They don't have an understanding that symbols convey a message. <br><strong>Stage 2 Verbal Informer</strong>: Chooses own topic tells about picture drawing contains few details. They may make random symbols. Some letters and number have form but don't have relation to sound. <br><strong>Stage 3 Letter Copier:</strong> Chooses own topic. May draw or cut and paste pictures. Tells about picture labels drawings with symbols or letters. May write strings of letters often used in their own name. Copies environmental text and from books. <br><strong>Stage 4 Labeler:</strong> Chooses own topic, drawing is more detailed. Labels important parts of the drawing with starting letter of word and tells about drawing with details integrated. Writes strings of consonants with some sound to symbol relationship. Shows left to right directional writing. <br><strong>Stage 5 Inventory Take/ Sound Maker: </strong>Chooses own topic. Tells about picture. write with letter and sound correspondence. Some words consist of first and last consonants. Begins to write inventories of known letters, words, or phrases. MLMMMMMLLLL or, I love my D, I love my K, I love my mom. <br><strong>Stage 6 Sentence Maker:</strong> Chooses own topic. More emphasis on writing than drawing. Begins to use finger spaces. Generates strings of words using first and last consonants, some medial vowels, words learned by rote. May wrap text. Begins to put period at end of writing. <br><strong>Stage 7 Information Communicator/Story Maker:</strong> Chooses own topic. Emphasis mainly on writing; drawing often follows writing. More consistency in letter from (case), uses blends, digraphs, medial vowels. Writes high frequency words. Writes from left to right. Writes more than one sentence about an idea or topic. </div>]]></description>

There is also guided practice with the students and teacher working together. <br><strong>Working with pairs or independently: </strong>Students work in pairs or independently on the writing concepts taught in the mini lesson. <br><strong>Conference with Teacher:</strong> The teacher goes around the room and discusses the students writing. The teacher helps the students develop their writing. <br><strong>Sharing</strong>:&nbsp;Students share their work with others. A partner, group, or class. </div>]]></description>
