From the pages we have read so far, the story reminds me a lot about all of the stories about people of colour who are innocent being ut in jail for no reason. I’ve seen small parts of documentaries where it shows these people who have served sentences because of the colour of their skin or because of the people they’re surrounded by in a courtroom being racist.

Steve Harmon is a black, 16-year-old boy on trial for murder. His lawyer is Kathy O’Brien. James King is the person on trial with Asa Briggs as his lawyer. The prosecutor is Sandra Petrocelli. Steve is writing a movie script about everything that is happening because it’s his way of surviving. In his journal, he writes about things that happen in jail, hating jail, being terrified of it.

The crime
On December 22 of last year, Richard “Bobo” Evans and James King enter a drugstore for a robbery. That robbery turned into a murder, killing the owner, 55-year-old Alguinaldo Nesbitt with a fatal gunshot wound. José Delgado, a young man who worked at the drugstore, discovered the body as well as 5 cartons of cigarettes missing.

The testimonies
Salvatore Zinzi is the first witness. He said to have talked with Wendell Bolden who claims he got 2 cartons of cigarettes from somebody. Briggs and O’Brien don’t think that Zinzi is a credible witness because they think that he lied to get out of jail because he was afraid of getting raped.

Wendell Bolden is the second witness. He says that Bobo Evans was the person he met with and got the information from the day before Christmas. Briggs doesn’t believe that Bobo would give out information that could hurt him.

The third witness is Osvaldo Cruz a 14-year-old boy. He’s in a gang called the Diablos. He participated in the robbery because he says he was scared of Bobo, James and Steve since they’re all older then him. He testifies that the roles of Bobo and James were to go in the store and rob it. Osvaldo’s role was to slow anybody who would get in the ways of Bobo and James. Steve’s role was to be on the look out. Osvaldo isn’t afraid of fighting a member of the Diablos, cutting someone and beating his girlfriend but he’s afraid of Bobo.
