I notice that a lot of my students really need this time to think about their answers.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Before I introduced our class to the concept of Small-Group Time, I emailed the parents of our 7 ELL students, asking them to explain the concept of Small-Group Time in their own language. Of course, I explained it to the parents first, in my email to them. When I introduced it to the students the next morning, I said "Small-Group Time" in each of their languages.&nbsp; I continued to say it in their language for several days until I saw that they had embraced the idea of working in small groups with their classmates.<br><br>~Marie Granato-Dahl</div>]]></description>

It brings something a little more personal to our relationship.<br><br>When making up my own materials, I make sure to include the names of the students as well as try to incorporate some of their interests into the word problems.
