This reflects in our values and how old ways of thinking still exist in our constitution. Religious values shape the mindset of the majority of Filipinos and so, topics such as infidelity can be a hot one. Cheating on your spouse is considered an unholy act in many cultures, but especially in the Filipino setting. Consequently, themes of infidelity or "kabit" may be seen in Philippine literature.

The Carnival Theory might explain the human need to express the profane and untraditional, whether through fiction or through action. People are sometimes intrigued and entertained by "new" or uncommon things and practices. This may be the reason why themes of infidelity are common in Filipino films, teleseryes, and series. The "forbidden" then becomes an acceptable topic, and even an act at least in literature. Usually, it is the husband committing acts of adultery in the films. This is a common plot where the "kabit" or the concubine will try to win over the husband and cause drama and obstacles to the marriage. In some cases, the wife will commit adultery.
