People used hand loom to weave or even their hands.
 This the process was slow and the production of the textile cloth was not good enough and wasn’t keeping up with demand.
So Cartwright created this invention to speed up the process of textile cloth and the production of clothes.

 In 1793 Cartwright went bankrupt and the factory was shut down. He had to sell over 400 of his looms to a Manchester company but he lost the rest of them when his factory burnt down, most likely due to arson committed by his competition of the power looms.
