Adab in seeking knowledge : The Quran as The Ultimate Guidance ☁️

1. Adab in Seeking Knowledge 📖

In Islam, adab (manners) is essential in the pursuit of knowledge. A student should be sincere, humble, and respectful towards both knowledge and their teachers. Knowledge is not just about gathering information but also about applying it with integrity and righteousness. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ exemplified the highest level of adab in learning and teaching, serving as the best role model for all Muslims.

2. The Qur’an: The Ultimate Guide ☀️

The Qur’an is Allah’s divine revelation, providing guidance for all aspects of life—faith, morality, social interactions, and laws. It remains unchanged and relevant for all times, leading believers toward success in this world and the Hereafter. Allah says:

“This is a blessed Book which We have revealed to you so that they might reflect upon its verses and that those of understanding may take heed.” (Surah Sad 38:29)

3. Engaging with the Qur’an 🌙

To truly benefit from the Qur’an, one should:

• Recite 🪷 – Reading with proper Tajweed strengthens our connection with Allah.

• Reflect (Tadabbur) 🌷 – Understanding the deeper meanings helps in applying its teachings.

• Seek Knowledge ☘️ – Studying Tafsir and learning from scholars prevents misinterpretation.

🪄 The Hadith of Jibril is a famous narration that encapsulates the core teachings of Islam. It occurred when the Angel Jibril appeared in the form of a man and asked the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) about the key components of the religion. In response, the Prophet outlined the five pillars of Islam :

•Shahada (Faith)

The first pillar is the declaration of faith:

"There is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is His messenger."

This is the basic creed of Islam, affirming the oneness of God and the prophethood of Muhammad (PBUH). It is the foundation of a Muslim's belief.

•Salat (Prayer)

The second pillar is prayer.

Muslims are required to perform five daily prayers (Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha). The Hadith emphasizes that prayer connects a person with Allah and is an essential act of worship, symbolizing submission and devotion.

•Zakat (Charity)

The third pillar is almsgiving or charity.

Muslims are obligated to give a portion (usually 2.5%) of their wealth annually to the needy. This act purifies one's wealth and helps foster a sense of community and social responsibility.

•Sawm (Fasting)

The fourth pillar is fasting during the month of Ramadan.

Muslims fast from dawn to sunset during Ramadan, abstaining from food, drink, and other physical needs. Fasting develops self-discipline, empathy for the less fortunate, and spiritual awareness.

•Hajj (Pilgrimage)

The fifth pillar is the pilgrimage to Mecca.

Every Muslim who is physically and financially able is required to make the pilgrimage to the Kaaba in Mecca at least once in their lifetime. Hajj is a profound expression of unity, humility, and submission to Allah.

The Hadith of Jibril also touches on Imaan (Faith) and Ihsan (Excellence in Worship), which are sometimes viewed as additional components of the Islamic faith but are deeply tied to the five pillars.

•Imaan involves belief in Allah, angels, books, prophets, the Day of Judgment, and Qadar (divine decree).

•Ihsan refers to worshiping Allah as though you see Him, and while you do not see Him, knowing He sees you, achieving excellence in one's relationship with Allah.

These pillars define the structure of a Muslim's life and guide their relationship with Allah, fellow humans, and the world around them.

Iman (faith) is considered the foundation of a Muslim’s belief system. it consist 6 pillars that complete our Iman as a muslim.

1. Belief in Allah (God) 💕

• Tawhid is referring to the oneness of Allah.

• Allah is the one and only true God, without partners or associates. He is the sole creator, sustainer, and ruler of the universe. He is unique in every way, and nothing is comparable to Him.

• Belief in Allah involves acknowledging His attributes, such as His mercy, justice,s knowledge, and power, and submitting to His will.

• It also means worshiping Allah alone and not directing worship to anyone or anything else (such as idols, humans, or any creation).

Tawhid (the oneness of Allah) is central to all of Islam. This belief also includes recognizing Allah's names and attributes, such as Ar-Rahman (The Most Merciful), Al-Malik (The King), and Al-‘Aleem (The All-Knowing). As it proven in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:255)

ٱللَّهُ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ٱلْحَىُّ ٱلْقَيُّومُ ۚ لَا تَأْخُذُهُۥ سِنَةٌۭ وَلَا نَوْمٌۭ ۚ لَّهُۥ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ ۗ مَن ذَا ٱلَّذِى يَشْفَعُ عِندَهُۥٓ إِلَّا بِإِذْنِهِۦ ۚ يَعْلَمُ مَا بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَمَا خَلْفَهُمْ ۖ وَلَا يُحِيطُونَ بِشَىْءٍۢ مِّنْ عِلْمِهِۦٓ إِلَّا بِمَا شَآءَ ۚ وَسِعَ كُرْسِيُّهُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ ۖ وَلَا يَـُٔودُهُۥ حِفْ حِفْظُهُمَا ۚ وَهُوَ ٱلْعَلِىُّ ٱلْعَظِيمُ ٢٥٥

2. Belief in the Angels 😇

• Angels (Mala'ika) are spiritual beings created by Allah from light 💡

• They are believed to be no free will, and their sole purpose is to carry out Allah’s commands. Muslims believe that angels are involved in various aspects of the creation .

• Some of the most well-known angels include 🎐 :

• Jibril 📜 : The angel who delivered Allah's revelations to the prophets, including the Quran to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

• Mikail 🌧️ : The angel who provides sustenance and nourishment to creatures.

• Israfil 🎺 : The angel who will blow the trumpet to signal the Day of Judgment.

• Malik 🚪 🔥 : The angel who is in charge of Hell.

Belief in angels show that Allah’s creation and governance are beyond human comprehension and that there are many unseen beings fulfilling roles by his command.

3. Belief in the Books of Allah 📖

• Believe in the books revealed by Allah to His prophets as a guidance for humanity 💫

• is considered divine scriptures and are part of the revealed knowledge that Allah has sent to teach and guide people.

• The primary books in Islam include:

• 🪷 The Quran: The final and most comprehensive revelation, sent to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). It is preserved in its original language (Arabic) and is considered the eternal word of Allah, untouched and unchanged.

• 🪷 The Tawrat: The book revealed to Prophet Musa (Moses), which contains guidance for the Israelites.

• 🪷 The Zabur: The book revealed to Prophet Dawood (David), primarily containing praises and hymns.

• 🪷The Injil: The book revealed to Prophet Isa (Jesus), containing teachings and guidance.

• 🪷 The Suhuf: The scriptures revealed to earlier prophets such as Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham).

While these previous scriptures were revealed to specific communities, Muslims believe that the Quran supersedes them and is the final and complete book of guidance for all of humanity.

Allah sent Prophets (Anbiyā’) and Messengers (Rusul) to guide humanity towards righteousness.

• Prophets are individuals who receive divine revelation to guide people to righteousness, but not necessarily with a new law. Ex: include Prophet Adam, Noah, and Moses.

• Messengers are a specific group of prophets sent with a new message or law to their people, such as Prophet Muhammad (the final Messenger).

• Muslims believe in all the Prophets and Messengers of Allah and respect them as models of good conduct and piety.

  
  

5.Belief in Qiyāmah (the Resurrection Day) ☄️

• Refers to the Day of Judgment when all people will be resurrected for judgment by Allah.

• On this day, individuals will be judged for their deeds, and they will either be rewarded with Paradise (Jannah) 🌈or punished in Hell (Jahannam),🔥 depending on their actions, faith, and Allah's mercy.

• It is a fundamental belief in Islam that this day will come, and everyone will be held accountable ❤️‍🩹

  
  

6.Belief in Qadā’ & Qadr (Divine Decree and Predestination)☺️:

• refer to the belief that everything in the universe happens according to Allah’s will and divine plan.

• Qadā’ is the divine decree or judgment of what happens in life.

• Qadr is the belief in Allah’s predestination, meaning that everything, both good and bad, is part of Allah's will and plan.

• While human beings have free will to make choices, everything that happens is within Allah’s knowledge and control, and His will is ultimate.

Surah Al-Insan (76:30):

وَمَا تَشَآءُونَ إِلَّآ أَن يَشَآءَ ٱللَّهُ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ عَلِيمًا حَكِيمًۭا ٣٠

And you do not will except that Allah wills. Indeed, Allah is ever Knowing and Wise

This verse reflects that human will is subject to the will of Allah, demonstrating the belief in divine decree.

1. Iḥsān (Excellence in Worship and Conduct):

•Iḥsān is the concept of "doing good" in all aspects of life, especially in one’s relationship with Allah and others

•The essence of Iḥsān is captured in a famous hadith where Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: “Iḥsān is to worship Allah as if you see Him, for if you do not see Him, He surely sees you.” (Sahih Muslim)

•It means not just performing the obligatory acts of worship, such as prayer (Salah), fasting (Sawm), and charity (Zakat), but doing them with sincere devotion and awareness of Allah’s presence.

•is also about excellence in character: being honest, kind, patient, and charitable in one’s dealings with others. It is living with the consciousness that Allah is always watching, and striving for perfection in everything one does.

•The goal of Iḥsān is to achieve closeness to Allah and lead a life of purity and integrity.

2. Eschatology (The Study of the End Times):

• refers to the study of the events surrounding the end of the world, the Day of Judgment, and the afterlife.

•Key components of Islamic eschatology include:

• The Resurrection (Qiyāmah) ☄️: The belief that all humans will be resurrected for judgment. Everyone will be judged in hereafter

• Signs of the Hour ☀️ : The Quran and Hadith describe several signs that will occur before the Day of Judgment, including natural disasters, the appearance of false messiahs (like Dajjal), the return of Prophet Isa (Jesus), and the appearance of the Mahdi (a righteous leader).

• The Day of Judgment ⚖️: It is believed that on this day, all humans will be judged by Allah, and their deeds will be weighed. The righteous will be rewarded with eternal life in Paradise (Jannah), and the wrongdoers will face punishment in Hell (Jahannam).

• Heaven and Hell🌠: After judgment, the final destination of each soul is determined. Paradise is described as a place of eternal joy and reward, while Hell is a place of eternal punishment.

• Intercession (Shafa'ah): Muslims believe that some people may be interceded on their behalf by the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) or others with Allah’s permission.

• The ultimate message of Islamic eschatology is the idea of accountability, where individuals are responsible for their actions, and they will receive the consequences of those actions in the afterlife. Surah Al-Anbiya (21:103):

لَا يَحْزُنُهُمُ ٱلْفَزَعُ ٱلْأَكْبَرُ وَتَتَلَقَّىٰهُمُ ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ هَـٰذَا يَوْمُكُمُ ٱلَّذِى كُنتُمْ تُوعَدُونَ ١٠٣

The Supreme Horror ˹of that Day˺ will not disturb them, and the angels will greet them, ˹saying,˺ “This is your Day, which you have been promised.”

🎐 Both Iḥsān and Eschatology emphasize personal responsibility and striving for goodness, with a focus on the inner intentions and actions that will shape one’s eternal fate.

1. Adab towards Parents 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

In Islam, showing respect, kindness, and care for one’s parents is of utmost importance. The Qur’an and Hadith emphasize the central role of parents in a person’s life and their right to be treated with dignity.

• Obligations :

• Being respectful and obedient to them, especially in their old age 👨🏻‍🦰👩🏻‍🦰

• Providing for their needs, both emotionally and materially, whenever possible. ❤️

• Praying for them, asking Allah for their well-being and forgiveness, especially after they pass away. 🌿

• Hadith:

The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: “Your mother, your mother, your mother, then your father.” (Sahih Muslim). 👩‍👦

2. Adab towards Neighbours and Society 🏡🌍

Islam teaches a strong sense of community and mutual respect, urging individuals to maintain good relations with their neighbors and society as a whole.

• Obligations :

• Treating neighbors with kindness, generosity, and respect, whether they are Muslim or non-Muslim. 🤝🫂

• Avoiding actions that would harm or upset others, such as causing noise, disturbance, or harm to their property. 🚫🔊

• Upholding social responsibilities, such as supporting the weak and less fortunate in society. 💖

• Hadith:

The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: “He is not a believer who eats his fill while his neighbor goes hungry.” (Sahih Bukhari). 🍽️

3. Adab as a Student 📚🎓

Adab as a student is about approaching learning with sincerity, humility, and a strong work ethic. Islam emphasizes the importance of acquiring knowledge, both religious and worldly, and encourages a respectful attitude towards teachers and the learning process.

• Obligations :

• Showing respect and gratitude towards teachers, recognizing their role in one’s education. 🙇‍♀️

• Being punctual, attentive, and diligent in one’s studies. ⏳✍️

• Striving to acquire beneficial knowledge that can contribute positively to society and one’s faith. 🌱

• Hadith:

The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: “Seeking knowledge is an obligation upon every Muslim.” (Sunan Ibn Majah). 🕌📖

• 🌏 Environmental Stewardship (Khilafah) – Humans are entrusted as caretakers of the earth, responsible for protecting and preserving it.

Usrah has been such a fun and meaningful experience for me! Not only did I gain new knowledge about Islam, but I also got to meet amazing friends from different course. It’s nice to have a space where we can learn together and have open discussions in a relaxed environment.

Fasting trains us to be patient, disciplined, and more aware of Allah. It helps build taqwa (God-consciousness) in our lives.

💰Zakat (Surah al-Tawbah 9:103)

our group choose hajj as our topic so this is what we got from the ayah :

1. Hajj is a lifetime obligation
   – It’s one of the pillars of Islam, and must be performed at least once by those who are able.

2. Early and proper planning is important
   – Start preparing early: make the intention, save money, and ensure all travel and basic needs are covered 🧳✈️.

3. Taqwa (piety) is the best provision
   – Physical preparation matters, but spiritual readiness and sincerity are even more important 🤲💖.

4. Source of wealth matters
   – Some people have complete provisions, but the money comes from riba, corruption, or they go just to gain status or fame (riya’) — which spoils the value of Hajj ❌💰📛.

5. Going without enough provision is also wrong
   – Others may have strong faith but lack planning, travel without enough resources, and end up begging in Makkah — this also goes against Allah’s command to prepare.

6. Historical example: people from Yemen
   – In the past, many Yemenis walked to Makkah with no supplies, thinking they were relying on Allah. But they ended up as beggars

7. True preparation = balance between material & spiritual
   – Hajj should be done with sincere intention (taqwa) and sufficient halal provision. Both aspects must go hand in hand for the journey to be meaningful and accepted 🌍🤝🌙.

– Every ritual is a reminder that Allah is watching and we are His servants.

Honestly, I didn’t know what to expect at first, but this usrah session fun !!

I appreciate how the session was handled — no pressure to speak, but somehow the atmosphere made it feel okay to open up, even a little. Sometimes, even just listening quietly to others’ sharing is enough

I’m really grateful to our naqibah for being so understanding during the session.Thank you for making us feel included, even if some of us were quiet or a bit lost here and there 😅

for improvement, i hope there is more interactive games and ice breaking since i want to know more personally about other people in this usrah hihi
