Learning Activity:

Once the students finish the sheet with their thoughts, we will come back together as a class to fill in the blanks on why punctuation is important and when we can identify which sentences utilize which punctuation marks.

The teacher will write sentences on the board without punctuation marks. Then, the teacher will say the sentence aloud to the class with specific inflections such as using an excited inflection for exclamatory.

After an example is given of each sentence, have the class rejoin their collaborative groups and categorize the sentences into their respective groups such as putting the sentence "Where is the cat?" and placing it into the category they believe it would fit into such as declarative, interrogative, or exclamatory.

We will come back together and make an anchor chart of our findings and explanations.
